Had a lovely meal for two as a part of their Xmas December menu. Perfect fast service with a warm evening welcome. Owner was gracious and checked on how we were enjoying the meal. Very atmospheric with soft lighting, countrified rustic paintings in this rural village pub. Other diners respectful and enjoying the occasion. Food was very good value with venison and the best brandy sauce well liquored and rich. Finest dining experience to match the best Mayfair eateries. Well done.

This place is going to be difficult to get in soon and I can see why, it really is a hidden gem.
From the point of arrival, the warm friendly welcome extended throughout our stay and the staff could not do more to help. The food was a delight and an experience in fine dining without being too pretentious. This continued at breakfast with quality and provenance most definitely a priority. The accommodation was excellent with some nice touches (complimentary crisps!!!!). Having stayed at a number of Inns in the local area this is by far the best. It really does tick all the boxes.

Seventeen ladies visited The White Horse for a night out during a ‘mature’ hen weekend! The experience was fabulous. Carla is a tremendous host and exceptionally proud of her restaurant, and so she should be. She was of great assistance in advance of us arriving and during the evening. The food was totally amazing (Carla’s husband is the chef). I can personally recommend the scallops, belly pork and brulee. Yum! We had a good few ’foodies’ in our party and every one of them was very impressed at the wonderful quality of produce and presentation; the meals were outstanding. The staff were very attentive and the whole place had a lovely, relaxed feel to it. If you’re looking for a romantic meal out, look no further. If you’re looking for a larger party venue, look no further. You will not be disappointed. Although we are not local to the area we already plan to revisit as this is the jewel in Wiltshire’s crown and is extremely worthwhile travelling to (they also have accommodation in a separate annexe for those who need it!)

After a week in the hubbub of the city, we were both looking forward to a much needed break, and the White Horse in Compton Bassett was just what the doctor ordered. Set in the heart of the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, it was the perfect escape, and Tara and Danny and their staff made us feel welcome from the instant we arrived to the moment we left.

After cycling to nearby Avebury on the Saturday, we relaxed in front of the roaring fire to enjoy a three course meal, which was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to stay for the roast on Sunday, which was well worth prolonging our departure for. In fact we were sad to leave......

Stunning countryside, warm and welcoming company and food to die for- well worth the visit!
