Stayed here sept. 18 &19 2017, had a third floor room with private bath and great view of the harbor and dock. Great service, from the dock (bags picked up and dropped off at out room door) to check-in checking staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable, We had breakfast (included with room) and dinner both nights. Recommend reservations as there are not to many places to eat on the Island. (we found this out the first time we stayed on the Island (30 yrs. ago) not at the Island Inn but at a room only house. There were plenty of sitting areas in the Inn and on the porch. Can't say enough about this place. Would stay here again and recommend.

Room Tip: Third floor (if stairs aren't an issue) harbor view, private bath.

The dining room is hung with local art that complements the vistas out the windows. The food and service are very good and well presented.

The fish tacos are overflowing with ingredients and hot, fresh battered fish. As good or better than any we have had on the coast. The burgers aren't hand pressed but are still tasty. The in house potato chips are delicious and accompany most lunches.

Well priced food and attentive service.

Very enjoyable!

This was our second time at the inn and last year we had been in a cottage-suite which felt shabby. This time we had one of the two main building suites and the bed was divine, the sitting room nice and the bathroom sub-par with a tiny shower, poor lighting and not much room for toiletries. The poor lighting and space could have been ammeilorated by having a vanity area. No hairdryer is provided but is, I was told, available at the desk. The desk is not open at night; indeed if you have a non fire, or non-medical issue late - in our case a party at midnight in the dining room with loud voices - I couldn't find anyone to call.

Breakfast (included) was delicious with lobster scrambled eggs. I got plainer eggs as the lobster eggs are too rich for me. Dinner was the same menu, pretty much. from last year. The filet mignon is huge, but the mixed grill and other seafood dishes are awesome.

Thanks for taking the time to write your review. Thanks too for the kind comments and feedback on the suite bathroom. We are limited by the layout of a 110 year-old building, but we'll certainly revisit the suite to see if there's a more creative way to provide space for toiletries, etc. Our sincere apologies for the noise coming from the dining room. We have a strict "quiet time" policy for our staff (after 10pm) that unfortunately was not followed. We reiterated this to our entire staff the next morning. While it is true that the front desk is not staffed overnight, our personal number is included in our Welcome Letter and at the front desk. I wish that you had called us... I would have been up in the Dining Room in a minute or 2 to deal with the situation. Again, we're very sorry that your night was disturbed! Thank you so much for staying with us and hope to see you again on your next visit to Monhegan.

The Island Inn is an older but beautiful place to stay. The view is picturesque overlooking the small harbor and a small nearby island. It is quiet and most relaxing, especially from the large covered front porch or on the lawn. Inside it is clean and modern belying the age of the structure.

The queen size room also had modern amenities. The only issues were the minimal open space in the bedroom and the shower. With one chair, a dresser and a couple of bedside tables, there wasn't a lot of space to maneuver. The same goes for the one piece shower stall. Trying to turn or bend down in the shower was a challenge to say the least. Also, the hot water never got beyond being mildly warm. All these issues were minimal, but could put off some. Apparently the king size rooms have more open space, other than the showers.

The inn's restaurant was acceptable with minimal but acceptable offerings for lunch and dinner. Prices were a bit on the high side, but this is an island that has to get everything supplied by boat from the mainland. The complimentary breakfast was a very nice and complete buffet with everything most people could possibly want. The service overall was very attentive except for the breakfast where we had to track down a waitress for a second cup of coffee.

After reading about the inn in a book we decided to give it a try. In short, it was one of the best getaway trips on the coast we've ever taken. One of the best features of the inn is the view from the porch overlooking the harbor. Sit and read, have a glass of wine, just relax. The rooms are small unless you have a suite, but we didn't spend much time in our room anyway. The lounge area is comfortable with a gas fireplace for those chilly days. Visitors to the island can visit a handful of shops that feature local crafts, the Monhegan Brewing Co., the lighthouse museum, or hike the trails. We enjoyed the food which is locally sourced. The halibut was excellent. The breakfast buffet also was very good and varied. Definitely a recommended trip.

Room Tip: The rooms are small and some have shared baths. Try a suite if you want more room
