“Great hotel for mountain bikers, just don't eat there”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

My wife and I stayed in this hotel three nights, and used this place as a base for our mountain bike rides in the Jerusalem Hills. For this purpose the location is perfect. The place is quiet, I would say serene, clean, we had a great time. The only disappointment was the dinner we ordered there on our first night, which, for 70 ILS per person, was a shame (actually also for much less). Same goes for the packed breakfast we got the next morning (we left early so couldn't eat at the dining room). Having said that - I would return, just won't eat there.

Meve Shalom is more of an inn than a hotel, in a common jewish-arab villlage, It is about the idea of pluralism & peace. However, the lodging in this place is in a very low level. We knew we must not expect luxsury, But this was below our thoughts. It wasn't clean, it was too plain, not inviting, not good. The food (we stayed for 1 night, half board) was not good, very poor, and there wasn't enough, although they knew how many guests will have diner. And breakfast wasn't any better. We certainly won't go back.

After checkpoints and walls, and separate buses for jews and palestinians and all the in your face triumphalism that is Jerusalem, I was feeling very pessimistic about the human race. From there we attended a wedding and stayed over in Neve Shalom. A friend once said "beauty may be only skin deep, but ugliness goes right to the bone." In Neve Shalom, set up with the stated purpose for Jews, Muslims and Christians to live together, its beauty goes right to the bone. The food was good, and the room comfortable, but more than this the natural beauty in an oasis away from the tensions in other parts of the country was balm for the sole.

This is a simple but comfortable b&b, located at a place that is unique: a planned community where Israeli Jews and Arabs strive to live together as true equals, in mutual coexistence and understanding. We were glad that we stayed here. The grounds are beautiful, and touring the place is inspiring and educational. Even if you don't stay here, I would highly recommend scheduling a tour. I will say that they are more set up for groups than individuals, but they did their best to accommodate us. Also, it's much easier to stay here if you have a car, as the places surrounding NWAS are not in easy walking distance, though they did drive us to a restaurant nearby for dinner. Even with these minor challenges, this was one of the highlights of our trip to Israel.

this is a great place to stay. for one thing, the climate here is dry and cooler than it is near the coast, and that is important to us. ( we live near the coast in israel) the prices are fair, breakfast is standard but good, the staff, both jewish and arab, very nice. we also had a room on the last row, facing the beautiful judaean hills scenery. sitting on the patio there was a real treat. also there's a swimming pool, which we didn't know about. we've been there a few times, will go back.

Room Tip: on the last row, facing the valley. (not looking out at other units.)

We stayed at Neve Shalom/ Wahat al Salam ( commonly referred to as NSWAS ) for 3 nights, and loved the place - our house was the very last one on the right ( no. 131 ) and had a fantastic view of the valley below, with Ramla in the distance. The young reception staff are lovely, very friendly, as are the kitchen staff, and the dining hall food was exceptional - Levantine cuisine really is the best in the world ! You can reach NSWAS by bus ( their website fully explains how to get there, by whichever form of transport. ) We initially arrived by taxi from Tel Aviv, but got the bus from NSWAS to Ramle and then on to Nazareth. The Cafe Ahlan at NSWAS is owned by a lovely couple, Dyana and Rayek, and yet again, the food is scrumptious - one Muhammar each was never enough !! You can go to visit the integrated primary school and/or partake in many different activities at NSWAS. We chose just to chill, enjoy the amazing flowers and our thrilling first sightings of the Palestinian Sunbird, drink red wine from Dyana and Rayek's shop, watch satellite t.v. and relish the lovely food. The air conditioning is good, the shower room is clean and the beds are comfy. The room also has a fridge. This place is our joint favourite with Ein Gev Resort. I hope we can return soon. Please do look up NSWAS on an internet search engine - it has a very interesting history, and I wish there were more places like it, in all countries.
