As the previous reviewer, we also had a very bad experience with the Medowmere Resort. Within an hour of arrival we wanted to leave even though we had booked to stay for 5 nights. The staff was completely unsympathetic and we were told we would be charged for the 5 nights even though we were totally unsatisfied. The staff seemed to be completely used to people wanting to leave and quick to point out that you can leave but you will be charged. Unlike the whispering sand dunes promised on the website, what you get is an overcrowded, busy environment overlooking the main US Rte. 1 highway. The swimming pools and hot tub areas are way to small to accommodate the amount of rooms, leaving you to try and wedge yourself in if you are that desperate to swim. 50 people in a pool area only big enough to accommodate 10 is not my idea of a relaxing resort atmosphere as the website suggests. I cannot judge the contintental breakfast included, since an hour's wait for breakfast was too stressful. Now the accommodations themselves. We did get the jacuzzi room we had booked. However, the accomodations were barely adequate. The bathroom was so tiny, the sink is in the bedroom area, the bathtub/shower a leftover from the 70's or that's how old it looked. The closet space was non-existant since it had been overtaken to install a small fridge, leaving room to hang up 2 items at best and nowhere to put luggage, forcing you to leave it all over the room. The lighting fixture over the sitting area did not work, we asked the staff for new bulb, they spent time trying to figure out if needed new bulb or where the switch was, then even more time trying to figure out how to replace the bulb. Now for the jacuzzi---------extremely difficult to get into and no bar support, so be in top physical shape or else. Unless you are under 5 ft. tall, forget it being a 2 person jacuzzi. 3 of the jets did not work and the tub lost water level during use-----well we found out where it lost it to---------it flooded the reception area. Well at least we were then able to leave the next morning without being charged for the next 4 nights. However, now stuck with nowhere to stay the rest of the week was 1 night here and there and 8 hours travelling time each day---------not the relaxing vacation we planned. The Medowmere experience ruined our vacation. And bottom line, extremely overpriced, poorly misrepresented, zoolike atmosphere, not for anyone over 25 without children.

Dear Guest,

It is with our apologies to respond to your posting. We appreciate your business and thank you for trying our resort on your last stay - our suites are often noted as a favorite in Ogunquit for the in room Jacuzzis and quaint Maine feel.

We understand that hotels do vary greatly - however, we invite guests to visit our well maintained website to help them decide if our independent, family run resort is the best choice for their accommodations. Our location is well noted as 74 Main Street, Route 1 which is 1/3 mile south of Ogunquit center and 1/2 mile from Ogunquit Beach, where many people enjoy walking the dunes on their vacation to the area.

Upon check in at 4pm on your day of arrival, the amenity areas would be busy with our many guests enjoy the pools, Jacuzzis and more. Our numerous well cared for amenities are often the choice for families visiting the area, like yourself, on vacation. Our rooms, from standard to luxury, are maintained on a continuous basis in a classic New England décor, which some guests rave about and have purchased from our vendors for their own homes as it suits their tastes.

Occasionally, as is the case in any hotel, bulbs burn out and Jacuzzis can have difficulties. In this circumstance when the situation was brought to our attention at 10pm, we promptly attended to your needs and offered an upgrade, which was refused. When it was expressed that the only solution suitable would be to depart early, the manager waived all remaining charges and promptly allowed the departure. Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for availability in the general area.

While we regret that there were concerns during your stay, we appreciate your business and thank you for sharing your opinion.

We stayed at the Meadowmere Resort from August 6-8, 2007. We had booked a queen room with jaccuzi tub. Upon check-in, we were told that we could put our things in the room but there was a problem with the jaccuzi and repairmen were working on it. No problem we just left our luggage and toured the resort. It is quite large with a number of buildings. There is a indoor pool which we did not use, a roman tub, outdoor pool, outdoor hot tub, spa, exercise room and pub. After our tour, we checked the room to see if the repairman had finished. He had not and my husband asked how things were going. The repairman stated not so good, which left us wondering how long we would be waiting.

We then decided to ask at the front desk if there was another room available. A manager came over to help us and upgraded us for the night to the Honeymoon suite. Boy were we thrilled. We were celebrating out 25th Anniversary and this room was awesome with a fireplace, 2 person jaccuzi with steps to it, a king bed and fireplace. We felt very special! Though I cannot remember the manager's name, I do want to thank you again.

The following morning we were moved to the first room and the jaccuzi had been fixed. This room was also very comfortable and clean.

The only downside to the Meadowmere is the breakfast. Although it is considered enhanced, I found it to be mostly baked goods, bread for toasting, donuts and muffins. There was some cereal too. For some, this might be a fine, simple breakfast, but we prefer a little different when we are on vacation.

I would stay at the Meadowmere again.

We stayed at the Meadowmere for two days. It is touted as being a luxury resort, however we found it to be completely standard and very overpriced. We paid $289.00 per night for a luxury room with a jacuzzi, king size bed and fireplace.

Upon arriving we found that the accomodations did not match that which was given to us over the telephone when we booked the room. We were supposed to have a jacuzzi in the room, however there was only a fireplace. When we contacted the front desk we were told that there were no more jacuzzi rooms available, the desk clerk did not know the price difference in the price of the two different rooms, in order to reimburse us for the error, nor did she make any attempts to find out.

We never actually found the indoor jacuzzi, but we did come across the indoor pool and hot tub. Both were extremely tiny, and not worth bothering with. The hot tub actually looked like some sort of fountain or something.

All in all, aside from the mice running around the grounds of the facility, the room we stayed in was clean and decent but by no means a luxury suite as it was supposed to be. Although we enjoyed our trip to Ogunquit, Maine we definately felt ripped off by the Meadowmere Resort, and will never stay there again.

Dear Guest,

It is with our apologies to respond to your posting. We appreciate your business and thank you for trying our resort on your last stay - our suites are often noted as a favorite in Ogunquit as we have many types to choose from - including Luxury Suites with Jacuzzis and Fireplaces.

However, in the booking process of your reservation, which was made with one of our managers due to the many questions posed during your booking as you looked at a picture of the room on our website, the room type reserved was a King Fireplace suite. Our Luxury Suites were not available at the time of your booking and unfortunately remained sold out during your stay. As the correct price was quoted for the King Fireplace suite, there was no price adjustment necessary. We apologize if this was misunderstood during your stay.

Thank you for posting pictures of our lovely, wooded grounds. Occasionally, Mother Nature does venture onto the four acres of the resort property as Ogunquit has several wonderful conservation parks located throughout the town. Our resident grounds staff actively removes any such visitors so that they may return to a better habitat away from our more urban guests. We apologize that you encountered an animal outdoors during your vacation to Maine.

Additionally, thank you for posting interior pictures of our resort. To clarify, the area with the TV and the area noted as the sitting room are actually all one large room called our Lobby. The TV located there is for our guests to enjoy while relaxing during their comings and goings. Our actual TV room, a 35-person stadium seating private conference room, and Tea Room, a private sitting room, are located in another section of our resort. While we appreciate that everyone has different expectations of what may be considered a large pool, our indoor pool dimensions are 50 ft in length and 25 ft in width, which most guests find to be suitable to their swimming needs. We apologize that you did not have the time to explore the grounds more thoroughly during your stay.

While we regret that there were concerns during your stay, our hotel continues to receive numerous compliments on our suite choices, grounds, pools and amenity areas from our long standing customers.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

I have stayed at the Meadowmere with my husband and son two times, once in summer and once in winter. The first time we stayed at the Country Squire in summer----I was underwhelmed but just wanted a clean room in Ogunquit as we didn't plan to be in it much.... and that is essentially what I got. Clean room, but very dated and small and the beds were not very comfy. We were very cramped with the pack and play set up and I believe there was no closet. It is quite a hike to the beach too if you have a small child and all the stuff you know you need for a child! We went with friends and liked that there were tables outside that we could sit at and have some cocktails, etc. No balcony in the Country Squire part, just one long outside hallway with two seats outside the door to sit on. And yes, as one reviewer stated, the breakfast is nothing to write home about and there are no high chairs for your small ones.

We went again in December and tried them again, mainly because of the indoor pool and roman spa. This time we had an inside room which was admittedly larger, but again, the beds were not too comfy. This time we were very disappointed adn vowed never to come back though. The outdoor hot tub was open and I went in it, but when I got out, the decking was so slippery that I literally fell on my back when I got out! Another guest who witnessed my fall said that someone else had fallen earlier!!! That felt great let me tell you! So sleeping on the hard bed and then falling on my back---just great when you are trying to get away from it all!! I later hobbled into the Roman Spa inside thinking I could use the soak.....not warm enough first of all, but then as I sat there I noticed GROSS black stuff floating on the surface so I immediately got out. Really revolting. We were so frustrated with the place at this point that we asked if we could not stay our final night--we just wanted to go home! They said no, sorry, we could not get out of our reservation and would be charged. When we checked out the next morning, we told the hotel clerk we would not be back again, that we were very disappointed this time, and she said, "that's too bad." Great customer service. However, the OWNER was standing nearby apparently and was appalled, and said that if we had wanted to go home the day before, they should have let us and so he didn't charge us for the last night. He apologized for me falling and told my husband he is not going to open the outside hot tub anymore because too many people were falling! While I did appreciate him not charging us for the last night, I assume he is the one who puts these policies in place and is ultimately responsible for his poorly trained employees, who clearly have no clue how to provide good customer service.

Bottom line, there are better options closer to the beach with far better customer service. I can overlook a lot, but the lack of customer service put me over the edge the second time. We have stayed at the Anchorage a few times and like that much better. It has a huge outside pool area, with a grassy area, awesome kiddie pool and spa and a great bar/small restaurant with good food. Much more of a resort feel and very good customer service. It is also right on the ocean. yes, it costs a little more but I found out the hard way you get what you pay for!!

We just returned from the Meadowmere. We had a fine time. The room was clean and the staff was nice. There was an in door and outdoor pool & hot tub, a great work-out room, a free movie theater, a short walk to town and the beach. We found plenty to do each day as we used the resort for a home base and drove somewhere new each day. I would think this would not be a place for small children as there is no play area or much for them to do, but us 50 & overs would be quite happy there. There was a breakfast each day with plenty of food, but it was exactly the same every day. I was really craving something without starch and sugar after a couple of days. Maybe some granola or an egg would have been nice. The beach is beautiful but the water sure is cold. There is an information center next door, but they don't give out much information. If you want to see the area, you better investigate it before you get there. The summer stock theater was very nice, we enjoyed the show we saw. And you can walk to it in good weather! Just a note, the trolly is $2 every time you get on, but take a ride all around the town when you get there, then you'll know where everything is and how to get there.

We were a group of 10, having 2 family suites. In the South Building. The families reaction to the rooms.. "wow"

Our suite had the trundle bed which was a big hit with our 7 yr old. Along with 2 doubles, The bathroom area was big enough to handle 5, It would be nice to have just one half bath too, Not sure how they could manage that with limited space.
The other suite had 2 twin beds along with the 2 doubles,

Since the weather was "overcast" on our trip the indoor pool was just right. In fact half our party spent an entire afternoon at the pool and ordered from the pub. The food was enough for everyone to share and resonably priced. (which they charged to the room)
We too took the "short cut" and walked to town.
We ate dinner one night at Jonathons' 2 lobsters for 19.99 Their lemonade is wonderful..
Our last trip to Maine was 7 yrs ago.. we are wondering why it took so long to get back :)
