I chose this hotel because it was in the perfect location (it's in the center of town yet you can easily walk to the beach).

And I didn't care that the place is old - the stairs to rooms are steep and narrow, the rooms are small, the furniture is older, the rooms don't have phones, the bathrooms don't have any electrical outlets, there isn't a pool, and WiFi is available only in the main building in the evening.

But t seems like the owners are doing the bare minimum on the upkeep on this place. In our room, the cushions on our wicker furniture were stained (and they had already been flipped once as the other side had even worse stains), the bathroom faucet leaked, one lamp didn't work (which we told management and asked for a new lightbulb but never received one during our 5-night stay), one set of sheets and towels were stained, the stand for our fridge was ancient and badly rusted, and one bed had seen better days. Outside of our room, the screen of a screen door continuously fell out, the ceiling of the porch in our building badly needed scrapping and repainting, and an iron railing was badly rusted. The staff consists of college kids.

There are too many nice places to stay in Ogunquit and while I loved the location, we won't be back.

The location and views are great. The property offers lots of opportunity to be outside. The walk to the beach is short. Everything was perfect except for the temperature of the ocean! Our room had a fabulous view. It would be advisable for rhe housekeeping staff to do a more thorough cleaning before turning over rooms.

The only positive comment about our stay was the location. We stayed in an appartment for 6, we were 3, small and not very clean. Our first night there, we found a clump of hair between the sheets. I've been going to Ogunquit for several years now, I will not be staying there again!!

Our family was looking for a relaxing beach vacation where we would be staying close to the water. If we were any closer to the water, we would have had to swim! The Marginal Way House and Dockside Motel delivered exactly what we wanted. The motel was the closest building to the water. We could sit outside our room, or just look out our window to hear, see and smell the Atlantic Ocean. We were just a five minute walk to the main beach in Ogunquit - and often went to the beach early morning and dusk just to walk around. I thought it would be noisy being so close to a well-used path, but it really feels like a hidden gem. In addition to its close proximity to the beach, if you leave the hotel and turn away from the beach, you are in the middle of downtown Ogunquit, on Shore Road, with many wonderful restaurants and shops to visit.
Our room in the Dockside Motel had a cozy cottage feel. it was just big enough for us - two double beds with a little sitting area. Having a small refrigerator helped us save money on breakfasts and lunch. There is coffee available in the morning in the main house, where you could enjoy the view from the Front Porch. There are five buildings on the property, but it never felt crowded. Our room was spotless, although a bit dated, which added to its charm. We appreciated the fact that we could rent a room for only three nights, rather than an entire week. It was very reasonably priced for the height of the summer, and a location right on the water. We plan to come back on the off-season to experience this beautiful place by the sea in different seasons.

It was my second time in ogunquit, Maine and I noticed that I should have come here before. The staff is very accomodating in every way, to assure your stay is pleasantly remembered. You're just in the center of the town( walking distance). I truly believe that It's the best location in Ogunquit. The rooms are super clean, comfortable and well enough to relax. Thank you so much Laura & Geoff....

I truly believe this hotel deserves to be better than "#20 of 37 hotels in Ogunquit". Proof enough is the fact that my family has been coming to this same spot every year since the 1960's. As the youngest member of my family, I have been coming here for all of my 25 years. To say that I am a loyal customer is an understatement!

The staff is wonderful. The view can't be beat. The grounds are impecacbly kept. The unique location gives you the option to lay out on the lawn while looking at the ocean and the beach without actually having to be at the beach. It's especially nice on crowded beach days! Or, you can walk about 5 minutes around the water and be at the beach.

There is a great sense of community among the other guests. Each time we go, we meet new people who become longtime friends. You can't help but feel at home here.

Sure, the rooms are not as big and luxurious as some of the other hotels in the area, but trust me when I say the charm of the Marginal Way House can't be beat. You won't regret your say here!

Room Tip: Book the Cottage if you can. It is a separate one-bedroom house that can sleep 6 ppl and is practial...

We had been driving all day, beginning in NH, and couldn't believe our fortune when we arrived at the Marginal Way House. We booked online and didn't quite know what to expect, but simply floored by the views.
We stayed in the 6 room motel at the edge of the property, on the upper floor, and just sat and watched the tide come in for about an hour. So relaxing. The room itself is quite comfortable and clean, and a little old-school, which I appreciated.
The grounds are lovely, and although it wasn't sit outside weather while we were there, I can truly imagine sitting in the Adirondacks on the common grounds, watching the sunset.
The location of the property is about 50 feet from downtown, with all the shops and dining at your doorstep.
One very unexpected moment in our stay was when the alarm clock went off at 6:30 AM. Neither of us had set it, and after rolling over to notice the incredible red-orange sky of the morning dawn, believed that someone in the staff or visit before us knew better and set it for us. Incredible scene!

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms in the Motel, by the ocean. The best views from what we could tell.
