We have been coming to Ogunquit for more than 50 years and have traveled extensively on business. This is the only place where we will order lobster or steamers, because they are unexcelled.
The OLP was the first lobster restaurant in Maine and has been run as a family business for years. The staff is cheery and competent, and the food is excellent. The steamers have been washed under pressure and have no sand. The lobsters are cooked perfectly and split skillfully and purposefully so that you never need nutcrackers. Unlike many specialty lobster restaurants, the menu has a variety of other well-prepared dishes. I usually get lobster but have tried other plates, including swordfish, and all have been very good. The blueberry deep dish pies are a tradition and a treat.
I have read a few reviewers who complained about the price of lobsters. Perhaps they are forgetting that lobstering is dangerous business, done by fishermen who trap the lobsters and harvest their traps year-round in all weather; the lobsters are not raised in herds or picked in crops. Restauranteurs, and those who enjoy this delicacy, must cope with those facts.
I encourage you to try this special restaurant.
