Ogunquit is the last town on the beach and offers several 'types' of beaches. Around the point is the smaller beach that faces the Ogunquit River. The main beach goes on for miles to Wells. On the backside of the main beach is the smaller beach behind the dunes...worth the trip over many of the wooden bridges. Tides at Ogunquit are massive (20') at times. If you arrive at low tide the beach is a quarter mile to the water....at high tide however the beach is nearly covered (at least the parking lot area). The tide is very swift and anyone starting at the river can get a free kayak or board ride at several knots. Coming back however is something rather difficult and should be taken into consideration. Parking can be rather expensive.
