“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

This Inn is very nice. They have remodeled the rooms very effectively. The room I stayed in was very spacious and comfortable. The air conditoner kept the room at the right tempature. The owner and the room staff were all very friendly. If I had one complaint it was that the front desk could be a bit friendlier. I highly recommend this Inn to stay based on location, price, and comfort.

We just returned from beautiful Ogunquit but this hotel was a disaster. We were promised a sofa bed but did not get it. I then Requested a cot, they had no cots. How does a hotel not have cots or roll away beds?? I was traveling with two teens so we took turns sleeping on the floor. We were on the 2nd floor, room 609 in separate bldg. tub did not drain, plugged in charger for phone and blew out the power in the bathroom. Could not plug charger in next to bed because headboard is covering half of the outlet and is bolted to the wall. Three calls to front desk for hangers To no avail. The breakfast is barely that, English muffins, dry cereal, coffee and mini muffins that are gone by 9:00 am. The trolley is not free and the hotel is a bit too far to walk to Perkins Cove (especially when you have been sleeping on the floor).

Dole P, Owner at The Colonial Inn, responded to this review, 14 August 2013
Dear Beth

I’m sorry that you had a regrettable experience last weekend at The Colonial Inn. As the new owner of the Inn and the person ultimately responsible for our guests comfort and satisfaction I was truly saddened to hear that you had such a difficult time with us.  It is our policy that if our guests arrive and check into their rooms but are unhappy, we try to satisfy whatever shortcomings are pointed out to us. If we cannot satisfy them,  we gladly offer and assist them in finding rooms in other hotels that might be better suited to their expectations.  Had I known, or had any of our staff known of your dissatisfaction we could have and would have gone out of our way to correct any deficiencies that you found.

I want to thank you for your feedback, it will help make us a better organization and result in making future stays with us more enjoyable.

Regards,
Joseph D, Owner

The hotel itself was beautiful. There was a cool lobby with different table/chair set ups which made it very homey and unique. When we got to our room though, we were kind of disappointed. The room was very cramped. There was no room for us to walk by each other anywhere without one of us having to step aside. The view was of a parking lot in a church, which is why we obviously needed to keep the shades down at all times since the bathroom had windows also. The shower was very unique. We liked the nice white bathroom, which has a renovated shower (no tub). What we loved, was that the location was only a 15 minute walk to Perkins Cove and very close to everywhere else in Ogunquit. The owner walked us to our car when it was time for us to check out, which was very nice.

I was hesitant to book a room based on online reviews, but I am happy I took a chance and booked at The Colonial Inn. The room in the main building was clean, comfortable, and newly-renovated. The staff members were friendly and accommodating. The location was convenient; my husband and I were able to walk everywhere. I would highly recommend The Colonial Inn.

The Colonial Inn's main house (where we stayed) has been totally renovated this year. From 41 rooms it now has, I believe 28. The rooms are spacious, airy, with king sized bed and a large bathroom. The first floor lounge area has comfortable couches and chairs and there is also seating outside on the wraparound porch.

It is quiet and centrally located on Shore Road so there is an easy walk to either Perkins Cove or to the beach. Parking is free and next to the building. We hardly used the car, only to drive outside Ogunquit. There is an outdoor pool.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included, but only included muffins, bagels, cold cereal, oatmeal, and beverages. Overall, a very pleasant stay for our initial foray to Ogunquit.

After having visited the "old" Colonial Inn for the past ten years or so, we were a bit hesitant to rebook this year due to the high percentage price increase. (over 40% higher than last year). However, sentiment led us to rebook a room with two queen beds in the east wing for one night from August 6-7. (We were able to book one night on another site as the hotel staff would not let us do so). To our surprise, the porch, which was always the highlight of the trip, was even more lovely, plants absolutely gorgeous, and new furniture well-appointed and sea-colorful. Our room was new, modern, and comfortable. (The outside of the east wing building has not been changed paint/structure-wise but I am assuming that it will be in the future).
The only tip I can offer is that a hook or table needs to be put in the restroom to hang/place purses or beach bags.
As mentioned it is no longer budget-friendly, but if location, decor, and friendliness of staff are of a concern to you, then you should definitely give the "new" Colonial a try.

Room Tip: Try not to book a room near the picnic tables as noisy vacationers hang there for what seems like ho...

We did not realize until we arrived that the location of the inn was so convenient. The beach, town shops and restaurants, Marginal Way, and Perkins Cove, were all easily accessible and within walking distance. I had not been to Ogunquit for many years, and it was the first time my husband and I visited this charming seaside town together. Our room in the main inn was on the 4th floor with an ocean view - it was immaculate, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The shower was glass enclosed and newly tiled, and the entire bathroom was spacious. With the windows open at night, we could hear the surf and it was quiet considering it's proximity to the hotel next door. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub during our stay. The continental breakfast was healthy and a variety of choices were offered. We ate breakfast on the lovely porch decorated with beautiful hanging plants. Lemon flavored water, coffee and tea were available all day which was a nice touch. From the initial contact when I booked the room, upon our arrival and during our stay, the service was excellent and we felt welcomed. Tom and Kris were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was pleasant. On the morning we checked out, we met the owner in the hallway and he asked us about our experience. He was very pleasant as well. It was a great discovery and we will definitely return!

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor in the main inn

On behalf of the staff here at the Colonial Inn, we would like to thank you for your wonderful comments. The location of our inn has proved to be one of its most desired features. Guests frequently mention that they did not have to think about their car after check-in. Both Kris and Tom will be thrilled to hear that they made your stay that much more enjoyable. Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and we look forward to having you stay with us again!
