“Paying for the location..and that's all!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

Having been the first time to this area and going on a "short of the notice" trip forjust a night I went to the first hotel I saw by the beach..a decision I regret. While I told the very nice staff that I wanted to stay beachfront(rooms also available with river view or partial ocean view for much cheaper) I expected for $180(off peak) the rooms to be beautiful as well. So mind you I was very disappointed to walk into a basic room that would be equal to a 2 star hotel! The bathroom had a very small stand up shower with a basic showerhead, soap that smelled like ivory soap, and the refrigerator in it. The room was dark with an older style border, I believe dark green carpet, and TERRIBLE beds where I had springs sticking into me all night, and basic cheap blankets. However there was sliding glass doors out onto a shared patio right on the ocean. Having it be shared was a disappointment since I would of loved to enjoy the sound of the ocean all night but with the screen on the sliding doors not having a lock and people walking by it would be to dangerous. Unfortunately I don't think I will be returning unless they remodel all their rooms and bring them to what you pay for besides for the location. I didn't sleep all night due to the beds so in the morning we left early and didn't take advantage of the complimentary breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask which have section has newer rooms..even if your not facing the ocean its literally steps away s...

Dear Geri S,
Thank you for staying at the Norseman Resort on Ogunquit Beach and taking the time to share your opinions on tripadvisor. Our off season rates allow visitors to experience Ogunquit when both the town and beach are less hectic than the summer months. In addition to our location, we offer our guests a complimentary full American breakfast daily from our opening date in late March through mid-May and Monday through Friday from mid-May through late-June. Our rooms are renovated on a regular basis and we always guarantee immaculately clean, well maintained rooms combined with great service. Our rates also include two restaurants - our beachfront restaurant, Splash which has great outdoor dining overlooking Ogunquit Beach offering a casual menu, full bar and daily happy hour specials. Huckleberry's Restaurant serves breakfast and lunch in a casual family dining atmosphere. Two retail stores, complimentary wireless internet, coffee makers, irons/boards, hairdryers, refrigerators and complimentary parking for one vehicle per room. In season we have an outdoor heated swimming pool, tennis court, fitness room, sauna available at our Aspinquid location which is just a short walk up Beach Street. Our mattresses are high quality Serta and unless the mattress was removed and one were to sleep on the box spring, there would be no possible encounter with springs. Our decks and balconies are shared but most of our guests are respectful of their neighbor's privacy and are more concerned with enjoying the scenery of the ocean, beach and dunes as well as breathing the fresh salt air. Our Aspinquid location does provide private decks and balconies should that be your preference. As you were able to secure one of our last available oceanfront rooms on a busy weekend, may we suggest reservations the next time you visit to ensure your desired room type and location. Thank you again for staying with us and happy travels.

This is our first stay at Norseman. Room was nice, clean and well maintained. Bed was comfy. Disappointed that there was a shower stall and not a full tub/shower. Bathroom could have been more upscale. We were delighted with the complimentary breakfasts at Huckleberry's both days and a discount at Splash. Off season rate was excellent. Of course, location and view are superb. Would stay again during off season.

We have been going to Ogunquit for the last 10 years for our annual vacation. We've stayed in a number of remarkable places, but always wanted to stay at the Norseman because of its wonderful location. We finally decided to book our stay there during the end of the summer. Prices were extremely high for what the rooms had to offer. We stayed in a room on the tidal river side. Very pretty view, but our room was something to be desired. Beds were very old and the mattresses were lumpy and uncomfortable (I believe they were covered in plastic as well). Our air conditioner wasn't working, and when we called the desk they sent someone over to look at it, but that's all they did was LOOK at it. We ran it and it smelled like it was burning, so we never used it again. The bathroom was large enough, however, the shower was ridiculously small and narrow (larger folks and taller folks BEWARE). Parking is horrific....the lot is so small and everyone has to jockey for a place to park. My suggestion is to park your car and leave it there....use the trolley or walk if you're going into town. At one point, we went to leave early in the morning to grab breakfast and there were cars blocking the only path in and out of the lot. Frustrating!!
With the money this property is raking in from their visitors, they really need to upgrade the furnishings, and bring it up to better standards. Not very happy with our overall stay, but I guess LOCATION is EVERYTHING.....would not stay here again, once was enough.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere....save your money

Thank you for staying at the Norseman Resort on Ogunquit Beach and sharing your opinion on tripadvisor. We appreciate positive feedback and the opportunity to extend corrective action while our guests are still in residence. I apologize that our mattresses were not to your liking. Our mattresses are high quality Serta and they are replaced on a regular basis. We do not utilize plastic mattress pads. I further apologize for your air conditioning not being corrected satisfactorily and will address this matter with our maintenance supervisor. Parking is limited at the Norseman and we only allow 1 vehicle per room. Parking for additional vehicles is available in an adjacent lot at a nightly charge. Our staff would have gladly assisted in locating a parking space. Since the entrance to our resort is located on Beach Street which is the direct route to the main beach of Ogunquit, public beachgoers sometimes inadvertently block part of our entrance while unloading their vehicles for the day. We constantly monitor this activity and apologize that you were inconvenienced and consequently frustrated. Thank you again for staying with us and wish you happy future travels.

The Norseman is a very old motel on the Ogunquit beach. It IS the best location, but renovations are way overdue. They are doing a few rooms at present, but it really needs a complete make-over. It's pricey during the season, due to its location. There isn't even coffee available in the office. Nor a newspaper, just a bowl of candy. Do love that beach, though!

Room Tip: Beach front is best for ocean view!

Thank you for staying with us during our opening week and sharing your thoughts on tripadvisor. Opening the Norseman for the season, especially during an exceptionally cold spring is always a challenge. Winters at the beach can be very cruel and it takes quite a bit of time and cooperative weather to recover from the harsh weather. We are happy to offer extremely low spring rates and a complimentary full American breakfast to our guests during this period. As always, we offer our usual hospitality and our customary promise of spotlessly clean and well maintained accommodations. If there were specific issues that required immediate attention, we do hope that you brought those matters to the attention of our staff. Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to see you the next time you visit beautiful Ogunquit.

A most excellent location, right on the Ogunquit beach, there is no other property in town right on the beach like this. On our first night my wife wakes me up at 3am to watch the high tide practically coming up to the building. It was magical being right there on the beach.

The resort personnel are wonderful, clean rooms, I would just say skip the coupon for half off a meal at the restaurant Splash. Just get a great drink there and look right on to the beach and the surfers.

The price comes with a free breakfast at a place called Huckleberries. It was a very good breakfast and came quickly each of our three mornings.

Get one of the rooms facing the ocean, and just get take out and set up your room table right in front of the door, there's no restaurant in town as good as that.

Room Tip: Face the Ocean

Norseman is the only place to be if you want to watch the roll of the ocean waves, see the tides rise and fall, fall asleep to the roar of the surf on the beach. The watchword for this resort is location. The rooms are comfortable, the service is excellent.

Room Tip: The newly reconditioned rooms are a bit nicer.

Positive: it's on the beach. You can walk out of your room and be on the beach. We stayed in the Dunes, first floor. It was great to watch the river and see the dunes so nearby.
Negative: seriously outdated. I think the bedspread might have been from the 1980s. They are full and charge a good sum for the rooms, so there is absolutely no reason that the rooms could not be updated in the down season. Fridges and coffee makers in the bathrooms are not cool. New mattresses would be nice. We will go back, because of location, but I am certain that is why they don't update-no motivation to.
No breakfast, which is offered by other hotels. Nearest breakfast location is poor.
