Echo Motel & Oceanfront Cottages
Ranked #2 of 44 Hotels in Old Orchard Beach
Certificate of Excellence

We stayed at Echo Cottage #2 this year. This is our second stay at Echo and both times were just great. When we arrived and walked into the cottage, I teared up because I was so thrilled. The place was spotless and right on the ocean as expected but seeing it in person was so much better ! Everything we needed was there. We were on the beach all day and would leave our chairs and things on the beach, go in for a quick lunch and then back to the beach again. We love the family oriented area, with shopping, food and arcade. We also took a trip into Portland.

This was my favorite vacation ever. I've been to many other places. Echo at OOB is my favorite.

This is a perfect place. The only negative was that I wish we stayed for two weeks.

Thank you to the owners. They are sweet, friendly and accomodating. They made us feel at home.

Room Tip: Beachfront cottages are the best but all rooms and cottages are great.

We chose the Echo Side house on a whim and hoped for the best! We had never been to Old Orchard beach and the house looked decent and clean and the management was very helpful so we went for it. What a great decision! The pictures didn't do the house justice! It was HUGE and beautiful! It was affordable, fully equipt & clean! The management was wonderful and friendly and the beach was perfect. We look forward to going back again and again.

Room Tip: Call early, rooms at Echo will fill up fast! Bring an extra pillow!

We had such a great time here during the week of July 31st to August 6th. We (2 adults 2 children) had room #2 and my sister in law and her family had room #1 (2 adults 1 child). These kitchette rooms are fully equiped with everything you need. We cooked most of our meals here and had the use of 2 BBQ's. Leslie and Paul and their staff keep this "GEM" impeccably clean. I broke a glass on the first night here and Leslie was there in a flash with her heavy duty vaccum to clean up! Our room had a safe to keep our valuables in, and lots of room to move around. The bathrooms, although on the small side, were very clean and functional with hairdryer and fresh towels and bathmat everyday. This place is very family oriented, there are families we met that have been coming back here for years. It is quiet, except for the train whistle at 6am sometimes, but it is so easy to go back to sleep in the comfy beds. We were usually up early either to see the beautiful sunrise, take a walk on the beach or simply have coffee in front of our rooms exchanging friendly morning greetings with other early bird guests. The nights were cool so we didn't use much A/C, just kept the windows open for a nice cool breeze. We slept really well. The beach is so close....that makes all the difference epecially when you have kids and all that sandcastle building gear to lug. If you forgot something or needed to go back to your room it was just a "hop, skip and jump away". We went back to our rooms for lunch each day (left everything but our key and camera at the beach) and returned a couple of hours later to enjoy more sun, beach and waves. The Echo also has a hose to rince the sand off before you go back to your room, a real plus since all 7 of us were literally "knee deep" each day making one of our daily sand creations. There are two outdoor tables where you can have your meal. We enjoyed the use of these tables, one with the view of the ocean. Just perfect! After supper on a few nights we took a short walk (15-20 minutes) to the Pier where the kids enjoyed the amusement park and especially DQ. The Echo is close enough to the Pier to walk (and digest supper!) but also far enough to be away from the noise and "action". You don't need the car to get there! We didn't eat at the Pier (too greasy) but we did pick up a couple of pizza pies to enjoy back at the Echo from Roma Pizza which was excellent! We had been looking forward to this vacation since we booked in Feb 2011 and we were not disappointed at all! So much so that we wanted to book right away for next summer. We were very comfortable with kitchette rooms 1 and 2, we were side by side, Leslie and Paul make sure that their guests are happy and have everything they need.

We stayed at the Echo Motel Cottage #2 right on the beach, and it was our best vacation at Old Orchard Beach ever. The cottage was immaculate and looked brand new (we later found out it's only 3 years old, built on the same location of a much older cottage). It was a perfect location, just far enough from the pier to be a little less crazy, but close enough to walk to it in 10 minutes (and to watch the Thursday night fireworks from). If felt very private, even though it was only about 50 yards to the water's edge at high tide. The kids (ages 16,14 and 12) loved it, the 3rd floor bedrooms were like their own little world. The master bedroom facing the ocean had a fantastic view, and sleeping at night with the windows open and hearing the waves crashing on the beach was very relaxing.

Everything we needed was right there, including a gas grill for a cookout, laundry, dishwasher and of course wifi (which was great because I had do work during part of the week remotely). Everything was pretty much in walking distance, we only drove a few times to the grocery store, to the golf course (Dunegrass is only about 5 minutes away) and one trip up to Portland (about 25 minutes) to see a Seadogs' minor league baseball game.

I would highly recommend the Echo Motel (not just the cottages as the motel and other houses they rent nearby were also well taken care of, you can tell the owners really care about the people who stay with them. We're hoping to go back again next year!

We have been renting this property for 21 years and have been treated like family. We rent two of the three cottages they own and the family that rents the third cottage has been renting for 23 years. The property is very clean and includes towels, bed linens, gas grill, washer/dryer dishwasher and a pool plus much much more. Other properties do not offer as much as they do. The owners update every year. and take pride in their properties. They also own a motel unit. Go on line and check them out and then call for your next vacation. Be sure to notice they also have other cottages very near the beach.

Room Tip: There is not a bad location for any of the motel rooms and call early to try to get in. We book in...

After much online research I narrowed our summer vacation plans to Old Orchard Beach, ME. I put my trust in the Trip Advisor reviews and booked a week at the Echo Motel. My husband, 5 yr. old daughter and I stayed here the 2nd week in July and we couldn't have had a better motel and weather experience. Upon arriving I noticed right away that the pictures online did NOT do this place justice, it is more updated in person. True, it's not a 5 star hotel (as Paul mentioned to us) but I can definitely say it is impeccably clean (they even vacuum in front of the room, outside!), kudos to their housecleaning staff. We were in room #1, first kitchenette room on the bottom, next to the office. Prior to arriving I was concerned about the foot traffic and noise but was pleasantly surprised to find it pretty quiet. I loved that it was set in from the road and no through traffic on the street to the beach, which is only a 2 house walking distance. Upon arriving we encountered a couple of minor glitches in the room, the bathroom sink was leaking (from recent renovations) and the front burner of the efficiency stove didn't work (just needed to be plugged in). I mentioned both issues to the owners, Leslie & Paul and by the time we came back to our room that day both were fixed and we had no problems the rest of the week, now that's service!
The kitchenette was equipped with 2 burners, sink, dorm refrigerator, microwave, cart w/ cutting board, basin, sponge, dish soap, pots, pans, silverware, cooking utensils, bowls, plates, glasses, coffee cups, wine glasses, big salad bowl, colander, dish towels, coffee maker and toaster, ice cube tray. Bring paper towels/ napkins.
I agree with the other "reviewer" that the bathroom was a bit tight. It would've definitely been useful to have a detachable hand-held shower-head to bathe my 5 yr. old since there was not a bath tub and a couple of hooks or shelves in the shower stall (we used clothes hangers). Still, these things would NOT DETER us from staying here again.
Hair dryer is provided.
We would go to the beach the first half of the day, spray the sand off with the motel's hose, come back for lunch (which we utilized one of the two gas bbq's and picnic table with umbrella that are provided to motel guests (great amenity) then we would head to the heated pool (with outdoor shower) at the end of the L shaped motel. Although the motel is a no pet/ non-smoking motel (which we appreciated), smokers do have designated areas where they are allowed to smoke and unfortunately the pool was one of them cutting our pool time short on occasion.
The Pier, Playland and restaurants are a quick 15-20min. walk (not worth driving, nice walk). We ate dinner at Surf 6 our 1st and last night, eat outside if you like ambiance! Overall, we weren't very impressed with the restaurants in the nearby vicinity. Coming from Long Island, NY we were anticipating great seafood dishes with Maine lobster, shrimp, mussels, etc. WITH a view and still had food for a child...the majority of the restaurants offered fried food, not for us. Maybe if we went to another part of Maine it would have been different. We wound up going to Bugaboo Creek for steak and Famous Dave's for ribs (next to Cabela's) , both are child friendly. Had lunch at the Brunswick one day (a little risky with a child (beach booze crowd) but it turned out fine, bbq'd at the motel for dinner. Honestly, to have utilized the bbq for dinner might have worked out best.
Added bonus to end a perfect week, fireworks down at the Pier can be viewed perfectly from the beach every Thursday night in the summer.
Overall, The Echo Motel is definitely a place I would come back to if I were to visit Old Orchard Beach, ME again or I would love to stay in one of their beautiful cottage houses if another family tagged along!
