We chose the Beach House Motel because tripadvisor had excellent reviews. This was definitely one of the nicest places we saw while on one of our many walks on the beach. Ann Marie and Mark were very friendly and welcoming and we were immediately glad we chose this place upon arrival. Our unit (#9) was very clean and uncluttered. We were on the second floor, which was perfect since my kids are 5 and 9. I wouldn't have wanted to stay on the ground level simply because we got so much use and enjoyment from our covered balcony--coffee and breakfast in the morning, lunch in the afternoon, and drinks in the evening after the kids fell asleep! It was also a great place to hang wet beach towels and bathing suits over the backs of the chairs to dry overnight. The futon for our boys was very comfortable, much more so than pull out sofas they have slept on in other places we have stayed. Linens for the futon are provided in the hutch, though I would recommend brining a second blanket if you keep the room cooler at night. The room comes with amenities for 4 (silverware, cups, wine glasses, plates, bowls etc. along with pots & pans and basic cooking utensils.) The room has plenty of storage--big closet, armoire, dresser etc. so you won't be tripping over your luggage the whole time! It's so nice to have a kitchen and save money by doing breakfast/lunch in the room. We set up our chairs/umbrella when we went for our early morning walk and it was nice to be in such close proximity of our room. Another little treasure was a little snack bar in front of the place next door--they have a grill, ice cream, great iced coffees etc. for reasonable prices. The Beach House has a lot of nice little touches too--a place to wash the sand off your feet before heading into your room, well maintained grounds with beautiful flowers. The hotel is a short walk to the pier and touristy stuff. We drove into Scarborough and up to Portland for dinner. There is a great Whole Foods in Portland to purchase groceries for your stay. Don't follow the maps direction from their website, it led us to a location about 8/10 of a mile south of the actual hotel. Enter Roussin St. on your GPS! Also, the wifi was spotty at best, but not a deal breaker when you're there to relax and disconnect! We would absolutely stay here again.
