We rented 12 rooms for a one night business trip, and all the staff were very happy and helpful. The rooms were neat and clean, and building as a whole very quiet. There was a breakfast compliments of the house which was comprised of good, fresh, food.

Room Tip: Reserve early The rooms tend to be a bit warm

This was our second visit to the black bear inn. All was as expected. We got a room on the non-pet floor, as requested. Check in and out was friendly and efficient. The receptionist provided some bandages for my Freeport-blistered feet. Room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is convenient to UMaine, where one of our children studies. Though the freeway is just yards away, we were not disturbed by it at all. We will return.

This is a good place for a family visiting students, not if you're looking for a swanky, contemporary, modern conference hotel. The good thing about this place is the service and the location. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and the 5pm cookies were pretty yummy. For what I needed, in terms of location, it worked. But I wasn't impressed at all with the rooms. There was a microwave and fridge in the room, which was a huge plus. And there is free wi-fi in the rooms. Huge plus. But...........the furniture was old and need upgrade. The HVAC was noisy. The bathroom was really just average, needing serious upgrade. Nothing special, more like a Super 8 motel bathroom. Lastly, the "free" breakfast in the morning wasn't much to be desired. Basically, it's all D.I.Y., like going into your grandmother's kitchen and being told to eat whatever is there (i.e. day-old muffins, bread, a batter machine that you fill cupfulls of batter for waffles you have to make yourself, dry instant oatmeal packs, cereal boxes, yogurts in a small fridge.). No warm breakfast, unless you have an hour to make your own, and who has that? It felt more like a Travelodge, than a conference hotel. I won't return.

Where do I start.......First of all, the location of this hotel off of 95 is so simple even my mom could find it! It is an awesome location with plenty of room to park and to walk your four legged kids! We stayed in room 101 and will ask for that room again the next time we stay (and we will only stay here now that we know how great this hotel is). The room was on the first floor which was great for us since we had our girls with us. The room had a microwave and a refrigerator which was also great! The continental breakfast was a little less than most places but was still good. We used the room service for dinner one night and couldn't have been happier with our decision. The food was good and was delivered in a very timely manner and was hot. Should you decide to have a more substantial breakfast, I would absolutely recommend either Pat's Pizza (yes they have a breakfast menu that is great) or Governor's Restaurant. The breakfast pizza at Pat's is wonderful!! We can't wait to try the dinner menu when we return in a month or so. By the way, Pat's is a restaurant/diner that is 1950s original decor. They even have a dumb-waiter that the wait staff talks to the kitchen through to receive the orders! We have stayed in Bangor before and although the hotel was okay, the Black Bear Inn is the place to go when visiting this area - with or without your dogs. Now that I have found this little gem, I won't go anywhere else. Thank you to the staff for showing us how Maine hospitality should be! I almost forgot to mention the complimentary wine and cheese the hotel offers between 5 and 6 p.m. - "welcome to Maine - the way life should be"

Room Tip: Room 101 is at the end of the hallway - perfect if you have your dogs with you.

I visited for a business trip and became I'll on my way to Maine. The staff was very helpful and very caring that I didn't feel well. This really made me feel better. My room was comfortable and I was able to get a good night's sleep. My presentation the next day went great!!

We loved our night there. They are very pet friendly and the beds were comfy. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. We would definitely stay there again!! It was convenient to UMO too and that was most helpful.
