We were very disappointed with the home which was grossly misrepresented on the vacation rental sites. It is important to know that once you get onto Peaks, you are sort of ON Peaks. It costs a lot to get your car across. You cannot turn around and take it back over if you find yourself in a situation such as ours. There are limited times for ferry crossings. There is no Holiday Inn to check into, no Target to go to in order to purchase usable items. It is this that makes the egregious lies and terrible condition of this home so awful. The owner should be ashamed of herself. After several attempts to inform her about the terrible condition of the home, she apologized and seemed shocked, then we never heard from her again. Do not stay here- she will take your money and run. We have several other reviews for places we have stayed on tripadvisor which are all glowing reviews. For staying in a $3000 home for a week, we did not have unreasonable expectations.
Several items advertised where untrue- for example:
Balcony- it is advertised that there was a porch, patio and balcony. There is no balcony
Jacuzzi - there is no Jacuzzi or anything resembling such on the property
Jetted tubs- you cannot advertise jetted tubs when they do not function
There is no oven. There is a 20 year old convection microwave which does not work properly.
They advertised four bedrooms, but the basement is a family "suite" You cannot get into the bathroom or access the bedroom without walking into the other bedroom. Very inconvenient and not mentioned anywhere.
Our biggest concern is that the home is advertised as "allergic friendly". We have never stayed under any circumstances in such a filthy home. And it should be noted that we have stayed in some of the poorest countries in the world. It is full of mold, mildew and dust.
When we first entered the property it was clear it had been closed up and unused for quite some time. We walked through dozens of cobwebs. There were several dead bugs on the table.
The dresser in the downstairs bedroom is full of someone's clothing! We could not use the dresser and had to store our clothes on a bed the entire time. The closet upstairs contained old velvet robes. There were signs on items in marker stating "Not for renters!" Quite offensive and unwelcoming to be sure. Why not just pack these items away? For this huge amount of money, one should not feel as though one is sleeping on a stranger's dirty couch all week.
It seemed unlikely that the home is ever cleaned between rentals. There was a used razor in the downstairs shower.
The bedding, towels, blankets, pillows and beds themselves all are at least 30 years old. They are stained, ripped, mildewed. Dead bouquets of flowers and dusty fake flowers adorn the home.
My husband left with an eye infection and myself and my youngest son with respiratory infections from the mildewed bedding and moldy/dusty air.
We have used these websites for trips many times and have always had wonderful experiences. This was such a shock and disappointment.
