“Absolutely a fabulous place & experience”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

My husband found this inn online after we couldn't get into a place that was recommended to us. I am SOOO happy we ended up at the 1774 Inn. The location is just far enough away from hustle and bustle that you can actually relax and enjoy the sounds of tree frogs, birds, and of course nature itself. We loved sitting on the back lawn and seeing the seals on the rocks in the river, seeing a juvenile bald eagle fly by, and soaking up the sun.

The Inn itself is just GORGEOUS. Not a dark and dreary old home, but a wonderfully light and airy home. The colors that Jackie used to redecorate were splendid. My favorite being the yellow and white sitting room. Jackie and John were the best hosts I've ever experienced at a B&B. Their enthusiasm for their inn and the area was infectious. Her breakfasts were wonderful and it was very nice to be able to sit around the dining room table with other visitors and swap ideas of what to do. My only regret - not staying longer than 2 nights.

If you want a very peaceful place to relax, recuperate, and de-stress .... this is it. I really want to come back as it is centrally located & there was a lot we didn't get to see in the area.

John & Jackie, thank you for a wonderful time. Tom & Debbie W.

Room Tip: They are all lovely - the Hill Room gets wonderful sun in the mid afternoon. :)

"Superb from start to finish" describes our 2014 Memorial Day weekend stay at The 1774 Inn. The Inn had just opened for the season, and spring was in beautiful full bloom. We enjoyed the cozy Woodshed Room with its private deck overlooking the river; great since I'm a cigar smoker.

John was a genial host, and we especially enjoyed the tour of the Inn, which combines an amazing amount of original period design and trim carpentry with Jackie's sublime decorating taste. The breakfasts in the formal dining room were sumptuous.

Our thanks for a wonderful time. Warmest regards, Missy and Rich

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at the Inn. Our hosts, from Britain, were gracious, informative and charming. Jackie is a superb chef and prepared two delicious breakfasts for us. There are a number of limited service hotels in the area and for a few dollars more you can have a delightful stay in a grand, waterfront home with large rooms, comfortable bed, high end bedding and linens, good company and excellent food. We stayed in the Hackett room, I believe, and it included a gas-fired stove which was exactly what my wife loves after a chilly Fall day. This is a real charmer but far more luxurious and well executed than most B&B's which I often find tired out. Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: Stayed in the Hackett. The "Woodshed" room is also desirable I am told.

Jackie and John, our hosts were wonderful in that they made us feel completely at home in "their home" and were great at explaining where to go and what to see. Every window in this Inn has a view, either with the colour of the fall or the blue of the estuary. Breakfast is substantial and cooked to perfection.....no need to worry about lunch! We will be back.

We stay in a different B&B every October in Maine. The 1774 Inn was one of the most beautiful and relaxing. The old home was in incredible shape and the interior was nicely furnished and decorated. The breakfasts were delicious, the hosts were friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed visiting with the other guests as well. The location right on the river made it even more appealing.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a view of the river.

We spent four relaxing days at the 1774 Inn. The view down to Kennebec river is gorgeous. The indoor furnishing reveals an excellent taste. The breakfasts were simply outstanding - the best we had during our stay in the States.
It is for sure that we will be at the 1774 Inn again the next time we are in Maine.
It is an excellent address. Highly recommended!

A great B&B in a great location. A glass of wine on the back lawn watching the Kennebec roll by is so relaxing. Innkeepers, John and Jackie, could not have been better. Ditto the breakfasts. Waterview room in a 1700's home with lots of antiques, all the amenities and gorgeous décor. We have stayed in many B&B's over the years and this is definitely one of the best. We are returning next summer for 3 nights.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have views of the Kennebec but all are3 nice.
