La Quinta Inn & Suites Portland
Ranked #14 of 20 Hotels in Portland

We booked late, and ended up in this 2.5 star rated hotel.
We were a little apprehensive, as we had usually stayed at 4 star average locations.
As the title says, we were very pleasantly surprised. Its a good hotel overall, very good in our experience.
Rooms are large, clean and have what anyone needs. Any traveller expects a clean, comfortable bed, check; clean bed linen, check; clean bathroom, check; bath towels, hand towels, face towels, check. What you wont find are luxurious towels; 4 ply toilet paper; large soaps and shampoos; you will find adequate supplies, replenished every day by very friendly staff. I believe many of the less than great reviews are by people whose expectations are 4 star expectations.
Its location is good for driving into downtown Portland (5 minutes max); and its right off the highway.

Room Tip: No room seems to be a lot better than another

Stayed here for one night before a race. The staff was really helpful and the room was clean. Pretty expensive for the quality, but that was to be expected during this event weekend. Continental breakfast was not so good. In the end, good basic accommodation for one night, but nothing I would get for a special event (anniversary, etc).

The staff was extremely friendly and informative of the area. Location is about two miles from downtown. Nice walk to downtown area, with just a short stint of a questionable neighborhood. Got a cab back to the hotel for under $10. Worth staying at for the significantly lower price than a downtown hotel. Breakfast selections were minimal, but expected for a continental breakfast.

Overall good basic accommodations, but bed was not comfortable, old sagging mattress. Price of up to $200/night would expect a higher quality room. Site location was a bit off from downtown Portland, but came with car and was able to drive back and forth fine.

We stayed in this hotel for one night. The first thing we had to do was to ask for another room because someone had clearly smoked in the room we were assigned. In general the hallways and rooms all smell very strongly and not in a good way. The hotel is a bit dated, seems to be poorly maintained and looks dark and tired. The hinges of our room door were all rusty, the bathroom is very small and the were dark lines in the bathtub from a bathmat that was once inside it. The water did not run off properly, so when taking a shower you stand in water that touches the shower curtain and soaks up who knows what. There were two bars of soap and one tiny bottle of shampoo, but there was no conditioner and shower cap. The whole shower experience is very unpleasant. The plaster on the ceiling had been patched up and the breakfast in the morning is terrible. Only white bread, small dry muffins and yoghurt is offered. There is no fruit, anything warm, or quality bread and pastries. Dishes are plastic only and generate massive amounts of garbage. The breakfast room is also very tiny with lots of tables in it, so one feels confined. All in all, we were happy to get out of there as quickly as possible, and we feel that 200 dollars per night for what is offered is way too much money and a rip off people should not accept.

You get a room with beds but don´t expect more...
The bathroom bin had not been emptied. At peak hour there are twice as many people wanting breakfast than seated places in the breakfast room. Same thing for the coffee machine and nobody to refill it.

Better to pass your way...

My husband and I have been staying at La Quintas for years. Our travel there has been for mostly medical purposes and we have made friends with most of the staff. However; on our last couple of visits one of the front clerks (Krista), seems to go out of her way to be extremely rude to the guests. On one of our visits we paid for our entire stay ( we always pay in cash ), and when we went to check out, she told us we hadn't paid for one of the nights and charged us a phenomenal fee. My husband and I looked for our receipts, which we always keep, but for some reason we couldn't find it. We ended up paying the extra money only to find out later when we paid our bill on check-in, the wonderful lady that checked us in charged us exactly what the computer told her we owed; but when we went to check out, the girl that was checking us out didn't like what we had paid and put her own price in! My husband and I talked seriously about never using this hotel again, but because we have a lot of the staff we do like decided to try again and see how things went. On our last visit we had called 3 months in advance and made reservations for two rooms and asked that they be on the bottom floor. However, when we got there for check-in, we again had (Krista) and one of our rooms had been given away. She informed us that if the room is occupied they don't move guests. The funny thing is that I was at the hotel and my husband was in the hospital and I was told I had to move rooms because another couple had reserved the room I was in! I'm not sure why La Quintas would continue to employ someone who lacks the ability to deal with the public! This employee never smiles, and she's rude to guests on a regular basis. If we have to ever deal with her again, we certainly will not be checking in, but we will leave and stay at another hotel and we certainly will not be recommending the hotel to our friends again. Hopefully this employee will be dealt with and we will no longer have to deal with her. Other than that ongoing problem, we love the rest of the staff and enjoy seeing them on our trips.

Room Tip: rooms on the bottom floor are quiet. Also if you have pet allergies ask for a floor no pets are allo...
