After having a stingy dinner of oyster in a nearby oyster bar, we told ourselves to have a great deal of dessert. This cafe is located along a wide pedestrian road unevenly paved with bricks reminiscent of Europe side streets. We were looking and looking guided by our phone app and we were startled to see it just right under our nose! The entrance door was so simple and signage was so unassuming with just a dim light enough to see it. The interior is dimly lit as well with French decor like paintings of Eiffel Tower and some ( Christmas ) lights .Only two tables were occupied but there were some people at the bar. We asked the server what he could recommend to us. We ordered two slices of different chocolate cake --both were good but the one with pecan was the best. As we savored our cake, customers began to swarm the place.

My husband and I went here after dinner for our anniversary. It was so nice it was a very chill environment and my pomegranate martini was so good. the only issue we had was it was very pricey but it was in the old port so we kind of expected that.

Our group of 3 couples stopped in around 10:30 on a Saturday evening. It was a very nice experience. It is a small cafe and we had to wait several minutes to be seated because we were a group of 6 and it was a beautiful Saturday night in Portland. By the time that we arrived at 10:30 they had sold out of several items that we had hoped to enjoy. I had the Blueberry Pie which was very nice but we had been told that the whipped cream was outstanding. And it was! I was also very pleasantly surprised to learn that they serve homemade Lemoncello. It was sweet and fruity and powerful!

My wife and I experienced this place twice while in Portland and we still talk about it. They make a variety of drinks and desserts that are outstanding. The peanut butter martini was one of the best drinks I've ever had. There creme brulee is perfect, the chocolate pie is sinful. If in Portland, you gotta go there.

Part of our family was visiting from Virginia. After dinner at Caiola's, an excellent bistro, we decided to stroll in the Old Port. The Bar of Chocolate on Wharf Street was too hard to resist. We had the chocolate martini (great) and the chocolate cake (equally so) in an attempt at overdosing on chocolate. None of us were overdosed but all of us were rewarded by their offerings.
