Owner description: Ship traffic here runs the gamut from lobster boats to oil tankers and cruise lines; also look for the many photogenic lighthouses.

Casco Bay is just beautiful. Over 200 islands, some inhabited and some not. Take the 90 minute harbor cruise at the wharf and find out all about it. So tranquil and serene. For a larger view, go to the Observatory and climb to the top. You will be able to get great photos of 7 or more islands at one time.

Took the 9:30AM ferry to Peaks Island which only takes 15-20 minutes. Great ride and views along the way. We rented bikes on Peaks (little bike shop - take a left at the top of the hill after leaving the ferry) for 2 hours and enjoyed the perimeter road and all the views. It was so great and such a short ride, we went around the perimeter of the island twice. Had a couple of beers and appetizers on the deck of the Cockeyed Gull and still made the 12:45 return ferry to Portland. Peaks is well worth the visit.

Having grown up in Maine in the summer, there are many things I have to do every time I go back and taking a ride on Casco Bay lines is one of them. The mail boat run services most of Casco Bay's main populated islands with a passenger ferry and delivers their mail and freight as well as offering passenger service. The captain gives a great narrated tour of the areas history. It takes around three hours with a chance to get off and walk around on Chebeague Island in the middle if desired. Casco Bay is absolutely beuatiful and its a great way to spend a hot day. You will see lots of seals, dolphins, birds and the occasional occasional whale. Plenty of lobstermen working the channels too.

A beautiful bay off the coast of Maine. Nice to relax and watch the boats and enjoy the views. Went to several lighthouses along the bay-very goo. Love lighthouses.

Highly recommend taking the ferry out to Peaks Island, renting a bike (at Brad's Bikes, go left after getting off ferry). We had fun, then ominous clouds rolled in...
