Portland Regency Hotel & Spa

The Regency has become the hotel of choice for my husband and I when we are in town. We can leave our car with the valet and walk to shopping, great restaurants and other places of interest, or just visit family in the area. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The spa, pub (The Armory) and restaurant (Twenty Milk Street) all offer the convenience of quality without having to go out of the building.
There is a variety of room styles available. My most recent trip involved a birthday party with 8 women. The guest of honor had a suite in which we all managed to gather comfortably to chat, snack and play games. My 2 friends and I stayed in a handicapped-accessible room, as one of us was 80. We had two comfy, clean beds as well as a pull-out sofa.
Although the Regency is expensive, my friend had looked into some Portland b&b's for her birthday and found them to be more so without the in-town convenience. All in all, this was an excellent experience for us all.

Room Tip: Only caution is that I would avoid rooms near the elevator.

If you are looking for a full-service, boutique hotel in the heart of Portland, ME, then look no further. From the moment you pull up to the hotel on the cobblestone street until the day you check out, you will be taken care of like a VIP. Without question, the staff here are masters of hospitality - I only wish all hotels could hire people this great. As for the hotel itself, it is set a couple blocks up the hill (from the water), smack-dab in the middle of it all. The interior is warm and comfortable, with a full-service restaurant off the lobby and a lounge area (with TV) for sitting and relaxing over a cup of tea or drinks with friends. The guest room was spacious and warm, with a large, comfortable bed. Within walking distance of the hotel are numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and everything else Portland has to offer.

If you are considering whether to save a couple dollars a night by staying with one of the big chains, do not! Forgo the loyalty rewards club points this time around, and just enjoy this wonderful boutique hotel.

We live close by but were headed north to see our kids. Located right in the heart of the Old Port. Close walk to everything. Room was great and the staff was very helpful. Finally got to Becky's diner for breakfast.

Regency is in an old armory so lots of natural charm. We stayed in a room with two beds ...good sized room, very comfortable, free wifi, complimentary water, tea, coffee. Bathroom a little small. Valet parking available for only $12. Very convenient location to sites, shops, restaurants, nightlife, breakfast/coffee joints. Would stay here again.

I did not utilize the spa so can't comment.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 224 and was satisfied with in. Quiet, but convenient to lobby, etc.

We stayed here for one night on our way from Boston to Bar Harbor. It was super. Friendly valet parking, helpful staff, walking distance to restaurants and shops. I like a hotel with public areas where you can sit and talk, have a drink, watch the people, or work, and the Portland Regency had all these things, and felt intimate and personal. There is what appears to be a good on-site restaurant (we did not eat there) and a busy cocktail lounge. The valet drove us to a restaurant (the Green Elephant, that we planned to walk to, but he thought the weather was too bad -- raining and snowing, but we walked back). Our room was very comfortable. Free working, fast wi-fi.

This is our first time back I Portland in many years, and though we have always stayed at the Regency, they have turned it into a great boutique hotel. The bed and bathroom are world class, plentiful lighting by the bed and in the bathroom, and all the amenities wee there and then some. Included with the room is a complimentary coffee service delivered I the morning even though there us a Keurig in the room. Location is within walking distance of everything , and the staff is professional and friendly. Plus, they serve the best martinis in Portland in their lounge

This lovely little hotel had the most comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The staff was effecient & friendly. Room was very clean & nicely appointed. Located in the heart of the "Old" port district, close to restaurants & shops made for wonderful stay. Everything that was important to us was in walking distance.

Room Tip: Rooms on east side might have been a little quieter.
