“Always worth a return trip!”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

We try to get up to this charming hotel at least twice a year. The staff is typically great although this last trip we had a cranky bellman (two bad, bad backs - we need the bellman!). Things to love about this hotel: great non-chain accommodations. Terrific location to walk to most everything you want to get to in Old Port. And the in-house spa. The perfect antidote for winter! Steam, hot tub and sauna are included. Spa services like massage, facials and lash tinting is available - and I would recommend! The only downside to this trip in the in-house pub "The Armory" has definitely declined in terms of the quality of food from previous visits. Where as it used to be a place we were happy to have a dinner and drinks at and not venture out into the snowy Portland winter, I'm not so sure we will make that choice in the future. I recommend the king size rooms with balcony if you are there for more than a couple nights. The view of the city is great and that there is a microwave and refrigerator in the room is a major bonus!!!

Room Tip: The corner suites on the 4th floor are amazing - but pricy. The king rooms on the 4th floor with ba...

My husband and I came to have our last hurrah before our baby comes. We were impressed with the price, about 120 a night plus 12 dollar valet parking. The location can't be beat. You are right in the heart of the Old Port. The room was very nice and all the staff were extremely helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

The Portland Regency was very worth the $150 per night price and $12 for overnight parking is a great deal! Our room was simple but very comfortable, and I loved the king size bed! Our dinner reservation got cancelled, so the front desk has very helpful to recommend a new place. This hotel is a quick walk to dozens of restaurants, shops and bars. I'll never stay anywhere else in Portland! Definitely stop in at the Armory bar on the ground floor of the hotel - $7 martinis on Monday night and an excellent drink menu!

We came here for a couple of nights mid-winter. I chose this hotel due to its great location as I knew we would not be able to walk all over Portland with snowy/icy streets and sidewalks. Within a few blocks are many restaurants, independent coffee shops and bars and interesting stores. Commercial street is just a block away. Fore Street restaurant is a couple blocks away (highly recommended for dinner).

The service was top-notch. From the front desk to the valet to the spa, everyone had a smile and was eager to serve. Speaking of the spa, this is a beautiful facility with shared jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Also a large workout room with lots of machines, weights etc.

Rooms are clean and quiet. Ours in the annex area had a nice view of the front of the hotel.
We didn't visit the restaurant or bar, but they looked fine.

Value was good, with a mid-winter special price. Valet parking was only $12/day with unlimited in/out. Free poland spring waters.

I think this would be a nice property for a wedding.

Only complaint - I wish we could take our dog with us next time. Portland is a dog-friendly town.
All in all, we were really happy with our stay and hope to return soon!

Room Tip: Annex rooms have big bright windows and overlook the front entrance.

I went to Portland to visit daughter and found a great rate for this hotel. (139 on hotels.com) It is right in Portland, walking distances to the harbor and many places to eat or shop. We had been to the spa before and this time we signed up for massages and a facial. The young woman who did these services (Amanda and Kristin) were outstanding, kind and knowledgeable. There is also an amazing Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
The room was nice, great beds. There is no coffee pots but you can order morning coffee.
The only downfall is the windows let in a lot of light and there are no curtains only blinds. Also in the early morning there was snow removal on the street and the noise might be lessened with heavy curtains.
There is a $12 charge for parking.

Room Tip: We were on second floor, it may be quieter higher up. Top floors has skylight and no windows so str...

The hotel's great location in the Old Port is why we choose this hotel. Glad we did. The historic hotel is a unique place for a stay. Rooms are comfortable and have a very nice bathroom and shower. Our room came with nice robes to use. It didn't have a coffee pot but as part of the stay they deliver coffee free to your room in the morning which gave the stay a upscale feeling. The hotel had a restrooms site which looked very nice. We didn't eat here but did spend some time in the Armory Lounge downstairs. That was a fun place. I would recommend the martinis.

This is the second time we have stayed here in the last year! Very enjoyable experience. Well appointed rooms, cozy and clean . The Bathroom lighting however was a little dim. Easy access to downtown Portland including the old port which you could easily walk to from there. Valet parking and wonderful service. The restaurant located on the first floor is fabulous Both for the creative menu, delicious food and excellent service. The oyster Rockefeller which I enjoyed was the best I have ever had. The eggs Benedict for breakfast is superb! Located downstairs is an ample bar with lots of choices, comfortable seating and a delightful way to spend an evening with friends. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I'm making reservations to visit there again in May.
