We been waiting for some southwest style cuisine to hit Portland and were hearing many good things about Zapoteca. We came on a Thursday night and were amazed how busy it was at 6pm! We were a bit concerned from the photos on their website that it would be very small inside but to our surprise it was much larger than it looks! We started with their guacamole which seemed a bit pricey at $8 but was highly recommended by the waitress. It was worth every penny especially with the addition of a little bacon. They use a different technique than I had seen elsewhere. The guacamole is in small chunks with a slight mashed sauce along with some fresh tomato and did I mention the bacon! My wife got the crab and shrimp enchilada and was very happy with her choice. I tried the dry rubbed ribs which were very interesting.
My only complaint was lack of local beer choices (they only had 1 variety of Shipyard) and at $7 a glass I thought it pricey as was the $9 house wine. So my advice is do your drinking elsewhere and come here to enjoy the food!
