I've generally had very good experiences at Hampton Inns, and this was no exception. The location of this particular property is ideal if you're new to Portland since it provides easy access to the waterfront and downtown. We booked restaurant reservations weeks in advance and were able to walk to all of them. Standard Baking is just around the corner, so if the complimentary breakfast gets old, you have that easy option. As usual, the rooms are not huge, but are well kept, clean and modern. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. Parking is not free (15 dollars a day, valet only), and they don't cross reference your room or name with the ticket number - so don't lose your valet slip unless you want to walk around the lot looking for your car (which I did on last morning there). We had a great stay here and will come back the next time we're in town.

We stayed here on a trip up to Bar Harbor. The day we were in Portland it rained constantly. We ventured out then decided to hang out in the Micro-brewery located in the building. It was a fantastic stay. After watching a football game, we swam in the (small) indoor pool.

The place is new, more affordable than other hotels nearby, and spotless. The breakfast staff are very helpful and funny.

I had booked this location for a number of factors, one being location and had booked it prior to the hotel actually opening. I was very displeased with a few of the elements we had to contend with during our two day meeting. The first obstacle is no parking only valet parking for which they charged us for each particpant in our meeting with a maximum of 10 spots, we had 22 people in attendence. I was told this was an exception and not always can they guarantee spots. The second obstacle was the bathroom facilities. The meeting room is located on the second floor among guest rooms but there are no facilities for the meeting attendees. The only available bathrooms are on the first floor and they are a single so at break time our class could only go one at a time. My third issue was the coordination of the food being delivered. Although good in quality and taste the timing was a bit of an issue and since this was a new collaboration between the hotel and the restaurant I would hope future events would go more smoothly.

We travel a great deal and never have we seen such an attentive staff. Absolutely LOVED this place. They made a very rainy weekend much brighter by suggesting things to do and the hotel itself is very comfy when all you can do is look outside and watch it rain. The breakfast eggs offered contained pork products, which my husband doesn't eat, so they made him an omelet separately. While we were waiting for an early check in to our room, they gave my son a coloring book and crayons, chips, juice and the TV remote in the lobby. Could it get any better for a 6 year old?

Convenient that there is a local brew pub in the same building so you can eat lunch/dinner without leaving the hotel and their food was great. We ordered food from a nearby restaurant for another meal, and the Hampton Inn staff offered an umbrella when I went out to pick up our order. The pool was nice. TV got a lot of use and there were plenty of channels. Beds were very comfortable. View of the harbor was good, but the best part was that we saved a bundle because they offer a government rate to military. Would definitely love to go back!

The Hampton Inn by Hilton is well located one street back from the waterfront. It is a new property with friendly staff and well appointed rooms. We had a suite on the 4th floor with views out over the harbour. Being new, everything was as you would expect and fittings were of a high standard but not luxurious.

The only gripes were that our room was not serviced until 5-00pm each day and then only a rubbish removal and clean towels. The bed was not made or linen changed and no turn down service was provided. No newspaper was delivered as requested.

An extremely poor breakfast was provided free of charge, however it was so poor that we ate out at the many very good cafes close by.

Unless the levels of service are improved this hotel will suffer as it ages.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor, level 5

I just got back from spending a week at this wonderful hotel. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The location could not be better it is in walking distance of everything in the downtown area. The rooms were clean(of course they are brand new) and very comfortable. Don't forget to try the Sebago brewpub next store the food is fab and Arabica coffee located on free street (the best latte ever). Despite the parking fee and lack of any self parking I would definately stay there again and would recommend this property to anyone.

I recently returned from a lovely weekend trip to Maine. After researching hotels, this hotel was recommended to me by a friend. The hotel is literally 10 minutes from the airport. Staff is friendly and courteous. Hotel is only a few months only, so everything is brand new and clean. Conveniently located in the waterfront district of South Portland. If you're lucky enough to have a harbor facing room, you'll see the ships docked at the port right out of your window! Easy to get to the highway. Lots of great shopping, restaurants and organized activity (trolley tours, boat tours, etc.). Must do things include: Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse, Red's Lobster Shack, East End Promenade, Fore Restaurant (dinner), Standard Baking Company (breakfast breads/pizza), and Maine Foodie Tours. A drive up to Booth Bay Harbor and Camden are a must - picturesque and something not to miss.
