“Awesome Portland Harbor Hotel!”
Reviewed 2 October 2012

We had the pleasure of recently staying at the Portland Harbor Hotel in the Old Port District of Portland, Maine. This was the start of an 8 day Maine vacation and we were to stay 3 days in Portland. We are avid walkers and walked pretty much the entirety of the city, and in doing so tried to find some good places to get a drink and eat some lobster! We are from the West Coast and just wanted some "easy" lobster that you didn't have to disect like a high school science class project. After a taxing day of finding only cold lobster rolls and long waits, we decided to go back to our hotel and make the best of it. Oh my goodness! We had the best experience EVER with the restaurant staff there. They not only were friendly to us, but went out of their way to even make up a special dish for me with HOT lobster! It was amazing and they continued to be amazing for our entire stay! We all became fast friends and we so appreciated the special attention they gave us (as well as other guests also). The rest of our trip (Bar Harbor & Kennebunkport) was spent at a hotel and a Bed & Breakfast that didn't come close to measuring up to our experience at the Portland Harbor Hotel. If we ever go back to Portland, we would never stay anywhere else. It was absolutely exceptional in every way!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the interior portion of the hotel NOT overlooking the bars and restaurants. It ca...

In a town with many chain options, I was looking for a hotel with a warm, boutique feel that was also conveniently located to dowtown. Bingo! The hotel has an excellent location downtown near the Old Port--convenient to shops, restaurants and waterfront. We booked the Junior Suite room which was spacious, welcoming and very nicely decorated--modern, clean, luxurious. Annd, ahhh.. the bed: so comfy. The bathroom was equally nice--beautiful shower and soaking tub. Unfortunately we had to leave too early in the morning to order the delicious sounding breakfast-in-bed, or partake in our free-cocktail coupon that was left in the room for us upon arrival.

In addition to the beautiful room and great location, I received a very friendly courtesy call to confirm the reservation--nice touch. When we checked in at 2am, we had to be buzzed in, and were greeted warmly despite the late arrival. Can't wait to go back soon!

We can fully endorse what most reviwers say about this hotel and accomadation. Really pleasant people from the valet boys, front desk and waiting staff. Ideally placed for all restaraunts of the Old Port area and nice shops. We were on our way to Bar Harbor and were last in Portland 10 years ago. This hotel and the staff made it a worthwhile place to stop over.

My husband and I had a lovely long weekend stay at the Portland Harbor Hotel. The location is perfect - step out the front door and you are in the middle of Old Port surrounded by adorable boutique shops and very good restaurant choices. You are essentially within a walking distance of anything you would want in the city - the museum of art, the civic center, the waterfront, etc.

The hotel itself has a charm that would make you think it is historic, although we were told it was new construction. There is a very tastefully appointed lobby with a very helpful concierge, who recommended some great walks. Although the room was on the small size, it was very cute and very clean. We both slept great. Valet parking is available in a garage right below, which we found handy.

We had breakfast twice at the restaurant in the lobby - Eve's. Very good both days.

If I am in Portland again, I will definitely stay here. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Portland.

My husband and I booked a room here for a wedding we were attending last weekend in Portland. I haven't been to Portland since I was a child, so I wanted to be in the downtown area so we could wander around the day before/after the wedding. The location is great - just steps out the door to some great little restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is beautiful - definitely has a boutique/European feel. The valets were very nice and accommodating. The front desk staff was pleasant and our room was ready as soon as we got there. The room was spacious and classic - loved the wood floors! The bed was HUGE and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was nice as well and if we had stayed longer, we may have taken advantage of the "romantic drawn bath" package (champagne, strawberries, heart shaped sponge (!), etc. for $65).

I have a few small complaints: the bathroom toilet broke while we were there. Also, there was only one roll of toilet paper in the room! I would have expected some backups. ;) We were also triple-charged for valet parking, but the front desk staff said it was a system issue and removed the 2 charges in error with no problem.

All in all, it's a beautiful hotel. I would have stayed somewhere cheaper (all told, it was almost a $400 night and we spent very little time in the room since we were at the wedding until late), but for a romantic night in Portland, I think it would be a great option.

Stayed here for two nights and loved the location. Hotel staff were extremely nice. Was nice to get some time in a boutique hotel. Had a few issues during the stay but the manager was kind enough to comp part of the night we had the issues, which I appreciated. Room had a great view of the old town as well. Would definitely stay here again.

We were in Portland working and stayed three of the 5 nights spent in Portland. I would have love to stay all 5 but they were sold out.
The best things about this hotel is the valet staff! We used the complementary town car to be shuffled around at night and the guys were so polite. Also, the lush king bed with slippers and robe. The rooms are spacious and very clean.
Perfect location for visiting downtown Portland.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view...
