“Very nice hotel with quirks”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

This is an older building, but a very updated hotel. The bathroom was clean and modern. The room was spacious enough with a desk area and upholstered chair & ottoman. The only complaints we had were that the toilet would not stop running. The maintenance people came to fix it, but it continued with each flush after they left.

The lowest temp the A/C would allow us to set was 68 and it was very warm in Portland on the 4th floor that weekend. I would have preferred 65. However, the A/C was extremely loud - waking us up each time it kicked on throughout the night. Perhaps it was a good thing it only came on 11 times!

Room Tip: The fitness room is small but very clean with everything you need.

Great service, lovely quiet room (hotel was fully booked) and tremendous location. The restaurant in the hotel 'Eves' is the best hidden secret. I had dinner twice in 3 days (once with my colleagues who were staying elsewhere). The menu is interesting, the shrimp cocktail (novel presentation) was fantastic, everything very fresh and medium rare sliders medium rare were perfect. The bar is charming, comfortable, warm atmosphere due to well designed lighting, a fireplace and I watched Sunday night football. It's a great place to relax and enjoy good conversation because unlike many of the more trendy restaurants you can hear each other and have a good time. Warm and friendly Doug behind the bar exemplifies the high quality responsive service.

Room Tip: My room had a view to the interior courtyard and it was super quiet.

Nice surprise, great hotel, great location. Everything brand new and nice staff.
Try the breakfast at the restaurant the setting is quite nice specially in a sunny day.
Close to the old port exchange walking distance from the shops and restaurants.
Worth trying.

Stayed at this hotel in September. Staff was great, customer service was impecable. Room was very nice, bathroom was large with separate large shower/ separate large tub for soaking. Cleaning was impecable.
Location was perfect, within walking distance to all the restaurants, the harbor, and shopping. We had breakfast at the hotel both mornings, and was delicious. Service at the restaurant was also great.
Would stay here again and recommend to friends. Ask for the room looking at the courtyard, has a lovely garden and fountain.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden courtyard, very peaceful, looking at the garden.

It is a rare experience in travel when one encounters a very nice, well-appointed hotel that is not obscenely expensive, despite being located in a hot or emerging destination. You can have this experience by booking a room at the Portland Harbor Hotel. Ascend a sweeping staircase from the main entrance on Fore Street to find a cozy reception/sitting area rather than a "lobby". There is not a front desk. It is more of a front podium. Behind it stands someone who resembles an innkeeper more than he does a "staffer". He is warm and direct, advising that rooms are not ready for occupancy just yet, until ... wait, oh, you're in luck, I have one. Off you go in the lone elevator that rattles its way up to the fourth floor, where you find a beautifully conceived room in hues of earth and pale blue, traditional furnishings, a walk-in shower and tub in the bathroom adjoining a firm, inviting king bed. Back downstairs awaits an intimate dining area with a bar connected, similar to what you might find in an upscale historic boutique hotel or B&B. Out the door, a short walk away, the adventurer finds the waterfront along busy Commercial Street and its waves of tourists headed to the Portland Lobster Co. for coveted lobster rolls, or alluring Wharf Street and its culinary offerings, including barbecue, crepes and fresh seafood.
One other note about this impressive hotel. In the morning, outside my door, I found a local newspaper, the Portland Free Press. I can't remember the last time I encountered any newspaper at my door, and certainly not a local one.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floor (fourth) to minimize street noise, as the hotel is in close proximity...

Another hotel not to miss. Portland is really cool now. This place is in the best spot and provides awesome services. Front desk to chamber maids they can't do s ought for you. Has good food and lots of great restaurants around just don't go to J's oyster bar. Anyhow the Harbor Hotel is the place.

Very nice property, bath rooms are spacious with bath and glass shower, excellent helpful staff, my wife had an incident with her foot downtown, front desk and valet were very helpful in securing a wheelchair and assistance to locate medical facilities.. Above and beyond the call... lots of places to stay in South Portland, however amazing being downtown, able to walk out the door of the Hotel and choose from a selection of Food and Beverage options, fine dining, pubs, bbq joints and of course don't forget Rosie's ( an old haunt of mine, pub with nice people, local beers, popcorn and mmmmm shrimp... ) Definitely worth staying downtown and at The Portland Harbor Hotel..the Valet service is so convenient and well worth the cost... we only live once folks... may as well enjoy a nice Hotel...

Room Tip: The extra space of a space is well worth it...
