While in Maine for a camp visit, we stayed one night at the Portland Harbor Hotel and liked it very much. It is a block and a half from the harbor, surrounded by numerous shops and restaurants, and is a very civilized oasis in a pretty but touristy town. Our room was very tastefully decorated and comfortable; the only downside was that it overlooked a street with loud truck traffic early in the morning. In the future I would request one of the rooms overlooking the interior garden courtyard, where we had an excellent dinner.
The lobby is very pretty with a small but good bar; the concierge was knowledgeable about the area restaurants. There is a complimentary town car service to take guests to restaurants, but we did not use it as we dined at the hotel. I look forward to staying here again.
