“Excellent service!”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

This was our 2nd stay at the hotel and the service was fantastic. We were having car issues and the front desk and valet were very helpful in helping us find a mechanic. I had been in contact with the manager previously, and she went above and beyond to accommodate us, which was very much appreciated. We had a great room with a view of the water. The hotel has a great location and makes it so easy to just walk everywhere and there are so many great places to visit. We stayed St. Patrick's Day and it was a gorgeous day and Portland appeared to be very busy, so we were afraid we would be disappointed with the crowds and anticipated possibly being woken up in the middle of the night as people returned to their rooms, but we didn't hear anything. The breakfast in the morning was great and the staff there were very friendly. The front desk also arranged a taxi for us to get to the airport for no charge to get a rental car so we could return home. We will definitely return!

Nice location, right across the water, you can literally walk from the hotel and get on a ferry.
It is a nice, clean hotel, with parking available. I hope they had more vegetarian food options. Hope management takes note of this. Not everyone has to eat lobsters and fish when in Maine. I really liked the proximity of the hotel to the waters. Staff was not bad. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Get a water view room, book early, when they have wedding parties at this hotel, the prices get jack...

Parking in the Old Port of Portland is always an issue, especially if attending a large event. Yet parking here was no problem, it is offered through the hotel and if you have extra cars, it is directly across the street from the wharf parking garage (although it does have closed hours so pay attention...!) The hotel staff was accommodating when I arrived far too early to check in (intentionally wanted to spend time walking around the old port. The beds we heavenly. Staff was fabulous. Location is perfect and easy peasy to find and get to. Truly a good worry free place if this is in your price range.

We stayed there just one night when touring New England. We arrived early, as the drive was faster than anticipated, but we could get the room right upon arrival (before noon) as they were not that busy that time of the year. We left most of the luggage in the car and let the (compulsory) valet park it. We got a nice room on the 7th floor and were ready to head for the city.
The room were fairly big, so we didn't feel cramped when staying 2 adults and two kids there - and it was spotlessly clean.
The hotel is very conveniently located almost on the habour front - close to lots of shops and restaurants and some of the more lively quarters of town.
10 mins. away there is a large Whole Foods store, where you can stock up. The neighborhood might seem a bit worn-down, but my eldest daughter and I went there in the afternoon, and did not feel unsafe at any time.
A small pool and a spa are available at ground level, which is fine (don't sit in the wicker chairs with pants on without removing the cushion or using a towel or two - they're wet!)
Just behind the hotel is a great artisan bakery with a large selection of bread and cakes - try that!
During day time, there's complimentary coffee in the lobby, so you can unwind there.
The staff at the hotel - including the valets - are really attentive and helpful.
Great place to stay!

Room Tip: Go for a room on upper floors - of possible with habour view.

I find the service at the Hilton phenomenol. From front desk to housekeeping I see a group of people that enjoy what they do and are very personable with all guests. The atmosphere of the lounge is the most intriguing part of the hotel. The fire places and neat design give a great atmosphere for visitors and regulars. The normal weekend bartender Dennis is very knowlegdable about the area and a great bartender - very courteous and considerate. I see many people in the lounge that are "regulars" due to his personality and service. I know there are so many that stay at the Hilton just because of Dennis. My friends from all over continually stay at the Hilton commenting on Dennis being a friendly face to look forward to once they check in and relax. I highly recommend this hotel for it's service and friendly atmosphere.

This hotel is in an ideal location on Commercial Street near many fantastic restaurants and shops. We were there with several families to take in a hockey game and let the kids do a little swimming in the middle of winter. The valet was extremely friendly and helpful and check-in was a breeze (we were able to check in at 1:00 p.m.). They kindly accommodated our last-minute request to have all of our families on the same floor (our apologizes to the couple in between us as there were 9 children roaming the hallways too and from the pool). One of my sons kicked his iPod charger out of the car and the valet ran it over. The hotel manager very kindly wrote a note and slipped it under our door offering to pay to replace it, even though it was not their fault at all.

The rooms were very nice with ample room for the two beds, a desk and chair and included a microwave and small refrigerator. The lobby of the hotel is very nice with a double-sided fireplace dividing the lobby from the lounge. Beyond the lounge is the dining room. We didn't have dinner at the hotel as we had plans to go out elsewhere prior to the hockey game but breakfast was included in our stay as Hilton Honors Gold Members (which is a nice perk because breakfast would have been $11.95 per person). The staff at breakfast were exceptional - from the server to the chefs. It is a buffett but you can also get cooked-to-order eggs and oatmeal. There was a nice assortment of hot dishes including homefries, sausage, bacon and quiche-type eggs plus pastries, fresh fruit, cereal etc. They also served Starbucks coffee.

The only drawbacks to this hotel are the size of the swimming pool (tiny - barely 5' wide and not very long either) although there is a hot tub, which I hadn't expected, and the fact that they do not provide shuttle service to any of the downtown locations other than the airport and the Amtrak. We had a group of 17 and were hoping to get a shuttle to the Civic Center, which is a 15 minute walk, which wouldn't be an issue in the warmer months but was rather chilly in January. Many of the other local hotels (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn by the Bay, etc.) do offer this free service and it is a nice feature during the winter months. Unfortunately, we did experience one unfriendly staff member. Dennis, the bartender, was anything but helpful. We left the dads in the swimming pool with the kids while the moms went for a cocktail at about 9:30 p.m. We wanted to sit near the fireplace since we were chilled after leaving the heated pool area. We went to sit on the lobby side of the fireplace and were informed by Dennis "I can't serve you if you sit there." We selected a seat within the lounge area and asked him if he had a drink menu because we wanted to have something fun and unusual. He simply stated "No." When asked if he had a specialty he again said "No." without offering any suggestions or even a smile. We decided on drinks and he went to mix them. He asked from the bar "Do you want Rosa's or fresh lime juice?" for one of the drinks. I'm not sure who would prefer bottled Rosa's lime juice over fresh but at least he did give us the option. As we were enjoying our drink a few of the kids came in to let us know they were done at the pool and were returning to the rooms. He barked at the kids and said "They can't be in here!" I am familiar with liquor licensing laws and completely understand that minors can't be in certain spaces after certain hours but a polite "Excuse me, our license doesn't allow the children to be here after 9:00 p.m." (or whatever hour) would have been much nicer. After dealing with his unfriendly attitude all night one of my friends quietly but effectively told him that a simple manners were in order when addressing us or our children. His persona changed after that and he even ended up comping our drinks; however, that did not erase the impression he left with each of us.

So, all in all, this is a lovely hotel with a generally friendly and helpful staff. Just be aware that the pool is quite small if there is any sort of crowd using the facility and that there is no shuttle service. However, there are many fantastic restaurants and shops within a very easy walk and, for those things further away, cabs are always available.

Have stayed here several times and always ask for a room with a view of the Harbor so I can watch the boats go in and out, bird and people watch right from the window. The bed and the room appointments are very comfortable, there is a small frig and I think a microwave. Nice siting area to read the paper. I also love that it is right next to a fantastic bakery so I get pastries and coffee and have a fantastic breakfast basking in the sunshine. The hotel is close to just about everything you could want to do downtown. We have stayed several places in Portland but this is my favorite.
