“Interesting site.”
Reviewed 7 June 2013

Found this newly opened museum, with a renovated sanctuary on the second floor and museum exhibits on the top floor. This year features an interesting exhibit on Jewish summer camps in Maine. Jews in Maine - who knew?!

“Great restoration”
Reviewed 19 May 2013

This synagogue has been completely restored, and looks beautiful with the stained glass, historic photos, and more. The gardens on the outside are a new and nice addition. The staff was very knowledgeable and explained everything about the building and the communities history. There is also usually some sort of local art exhibit being presented at any given time, which was fun to see. Definitely worth taking the time to see.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 9 May 2013 via mobile

It's good to see that a this synagogue has been restored and is in use by Portland's Jewish community. The staff is friendly, informative, and helpful and you can visit all three floors of the synagogue. The first floor contains the area most commonly used for services and has a small display case with items available for sale. The second floor contains the beautifully restored sanctuary where services are held when there is a larger crowd. The third floor has exhibits on the history of Jews in Maine and in the U.S. in general. It doesn't take long to visit - about an hour if you really take your time. There is no admission charge but they do take donations. If you do visit, consider making a small donation to help them keep the museum open.

“A must see the Maine Jewish Museum”
Reviewed 6 April 2013

This museum is a must see for any visitor or Mainer on a visit to Portland. The synagogue is beautifully restored. The exhibits are well presented. The last exhibit I saw was of woodcuts and was outstanding. Examples of the techniques used were interesting and clearly presented. If you are visiting the Munjoy Hill area of Portland I definitely suggest a stop at the Jewish Museum.
