555 didn't disappoint and the service was outstanding. I thought it was a little over priced for the quality of food but they let us try an appetizer portion of the lobster Mac and I wish I would have ordered it for the main course. Ordered the scallops and they were good.

I dined here in early June and opted for the chef's tasting menu. I have not had a restaurant knock my socks off like this in a very long time. I can probably count on one hand the number of restaurants that have been consistently impressive from the first bite to the last, without at least one of the courses being "just ok" or "good but not great". Every. Single. Course. was simply amazing. Drool-worthy. I cannot insert enough positive descriptions in this paragraph to explain how impressed I was with this meal. You're cheating yourself if you come to Portland and don't eat here.

As a "foodie" I am always interested in new restaurants. We happened to be in Portland, Maine and looked for a well recommended restaurant. Five Fifty Five was not disappointing. The food was creative and well prepared from the first bite to the last. White gazpacho soup was a new and inventive taste. The pepper crusted scallops were moist and flavorful as was the hanger steak. And what they do with mashed potatoes ---- wow!! We shared a molten chocolate tart for desert. One of the best deserts that I've ever had.

Service was wonderful. Caring without being overbearing.

The next time that I'm in Portland this will be my first stop.

Visited with a large group and the kitchen hit it out of the park. Had the hanger steak and it was probably the best that I ever had. Started with the salad and it was nothing special (good but not great). Others had the mussels which were out of this world. Clearly the hit of the night.

Also had the lobster mac and cheese and it was fantastic. While lobster claws were a special treat.

Overall a very good meal, especially since they had to serve a large party.

Dined here with a friend in early June for a special occasion. The service was solid and the minimalist decor was nice. The menu is somewhat limited (as others have mentioned), but there is a nice range. The tasting menu provides a nice option for those interested in a range of offerings. If you go that route, go in hungry. Seriously hungry. We had to take the last two courses to go.
