My wife and I stopped by one Saturday afternoon for lunch. We each ordered the Bistro Burger and Potato Salad. The burgers were cooked as ordered - hers was rare and mine medium rare. They came on a not your regular burger bun, which was a good thing. The bun had good flavor and complimented the burger. The real surprise though, was the potato salad. It was most definitely not your usual potato salad. It was basically home fries served with a mayo dressing. I don't know who thought of this, but it really worked well. Absolutely delicious!

Just the lunch we were looking for on a warm Saturday afternoon.

In our quest to get to know Portland, we ate at the Blue Spoon as part of our walk around Munjoy Hill and a visit to the Portland Observatory. What a delight! The restaurant is small but smartly furnished with clean contemporary lines. There are a few tables outside, street side for eating. We chose to eat indoors and were easily seated at 5 pm. However, the place had a steady flow of guests while we were there. Two delightful wines were available for Happy Hour at $2.50/glass, the first a Sangiovese and the second a Pinot Grigio. Specially priced Starters were also available for Happy Hour (4 - 6 pm ?). the Meze Plate was outstanding with cheese, olives, salami, pickled veggies and grilled flatbread. Another Starter of Warm Feta Cheese dip and Za'taar was so unique and satisfying. Dinner was bistro burgers and Braised Beef/mushrooms over Homemade
Pasta. What was best for me was the option to have a small plate of the Braised entree. The Bistro Burgers were served with optional toppings, adding some savory adventure to a burger. All in all, two glasses of wine each, Starters and fresh delicious Entrees for two people - under $50. this was totally enjoyable and satisfying.

Portland is chock full of great restaurants, but we always find time to eat at the Blue Spoon, and are never disappointed. What I'd give for one of their grilled cheese sandwiches right now!! As luck would have it the last day of our trip, the rain caused us to cancel our luncheon plans . . . where to go for our
last Portland meal . . . it was unanimous . . . Blue Spoon!

We dined at Blue Spoon after reading about it and this will be the first of what we hope will be many meals there. Everything was wonderful, from a knowledgable, attentive, and pleasant waitress to our delicious meals. We ate outside in spite of a chilly breeze in order to enjoy the neighborhood ambiance.

There is an emphasis on local and fresh seasonal ingredients. My asparagus starter with bacon and a light mustard sauce was perfectly cooked and the flavors delicately balanced. I then had the dish described as Maine seafood stew with pollack and mussels which was a delightful surprise. This was nothing like a traditional seafood stew and was tremendously flavorful. I savored every drop. My husband had the beet salad which he loved and the red wine and sausage risotto. He orders risotto every chance he gets and was very pleased with this one. We shared a coconut flan and even brought some home with us since we couldn't finish it. The flan is denser than a typical flan and very tasty, recommended for coconut lovers. We each had the half servings of our main dish and were perfectly satisfied.

This little gem has an excellent kitchen and definitely worth the walk uphill!

Everyone had burgers and we enjoyed them, but the warm potato salad was what was truly special. The waitress spoke highly of the coconut flan, and that was a hit as well. The beer choices were excellent.
