“Good. Not Great. Clean. Good Sized Rooms. New”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

This was a pretty good hotel for the money. Since it's advertised as HARBORVIEW! and really stresses the view, we were quite let down by the actual view which we had. Don't expect to see much. Rooms were very clean, modern (a little too modern as far as design goes in my opinion), a spacious. Bed was pretty darn comfortable.

Restaurant downstairs is way too expensive, especially for breakfast. You'll end up going to one of the many coffee shops nearby.

You have to pay for parking. I think it was something like $17 a night; however, you have to see the parking lot attendant for the hotel guest rate...it took us 30 minutes to wait for the attendant to get back in his office which was really annoying considering it was 10 AM.

The other less than great experience we had here was with the shuttle bus. They offer a shuttle around downtown. The staff set us up to pick it up at 5:45 so we could make a dinner reservation. They said it the bus comes around every fifteen minutes...after it left at 5:40, causing us to miss it, it then never came back until 6:45... Needless to say we were late for dinner.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our tripadvisor page.

I am glad you enjoyed the guest room you stayed in! Due to our location there are only a few rooms that offer views of the harbor, the city and downtown. We have select room types that you can book that offer up these views.

I apologize about the issues with parking. The self-parking garage is not operated by the hotel. To ensure you are properly taken care of with your vehicle you can opt into our valet parking which is $24 a night. The issue you ran into with the shuttle will be shared with all of our front office and valet staff. We will be sure that proper pick up times are communicated and followed through on properly.

We hope to see you again in the future! Thank you for choosing the Westin,
Ginny

This hotel had been let do to seed. The redevelopment is spectacular. The rooftop bar is worth a visit just in and of itself. My suite was tastefully furnished, CLEAN and quiet. The breakfast service was a tad slow, however. I will definitely plan on staying at this hotel when i am next in Portland, ME.

Room Tip: High floors overlooking the city

My friend & I checked into theWestin on Sunday afternoon, July 20th, after a terrible experience at Inn by the Sea.
We were so lucky to instantly get Eva on the phone and it was totally uphill from there. The hotel is lovely, the staff is way beyond helpful and the rooms we're unite comfortable. John, Eva, the Entire bell staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that my friend & I had a great experience. Kudos to all of them. However, there were a few glitches
That I want to mention. The room amenities have basically disappeared. If you want a shower cap, shampoo, lotion,etc......you have to ask for it.
I was quite surprised. Other than that, all was great. Would definitely stay there again.

Thank you for your review. We are very fortunate to have John and Eva as part of our team at Westin. They continually recieve high praise from our guests. I will be sure to pass your comments on to them and the rest of our team.
Regarding the amenities we do stock standand amenities in every guest room, however, to continue our effort of being clutter free we do offer many more items available on request through Service Express.

Thank you for choosing the Westin Portland Harborview. We hope you choose us again next time you are in Portland.

The Westin is a beautiful property located in the Art District of Portland Maine. At first appearance, the hotel has a beautiful lobby and restaurant area, and the rooms are well appointed, clean, and comfortable. It's also brand new so that helps.

We stayed not long after opening weekend, so there was still construction going on most notably in the room above us which began at 8am on Sunday.

The staff here was friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed working with everyone from the front desk to the valets during our stay.

One downside is the location of the hotel. I am a huge fan of the Old Port, so I like being right in the heart of the Old Port, this hotel required about 1/2 or better walk to get to the outskirts of the Old Port. One shiny bright spot was an absolutely delicious coffee shop we found about a block away, and a used book store is right around the corner.

Loved the renovation of this old favorite and the view from the rooftop bar is the best in all Portland. BUt the valet parking?! Whats up? Took 25 minutes to get my car and the poor kid said he had to run 6 blocks. I didnt understand this comment at all since i was staring at the adjacent parking garage.

Room Tip: Park next door yourself. Its faster and cheaper.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for writing a review on our tripadvisor page. I apologize about the issue in retrieving your vehicle from valet. It is true that vehicles are parked several blocks from the property, which can make retrieval times inconvenient for our guests'. Our valet team is constantly improving and addressing this with staff to ensure cars are delivered in the quickest manner. Unfortunately the parking garage adjacent to the property is privately owned and not an entity of the hotel.

We hope this issue doesn't deter you from choosing to stay with us in the future. I hope you had a wonderful stay in Portland!

Sincerely,
Ginny

Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was great! We will make sure to stay here again!

We were suprised that we could not see the harbor from our room. This was the last hotel we stayed at on our New England trip so we were very happy with the new, large comfortable rooms. We had just stayed at the Bluenose Inn in Bar Harbor and White Barn in Kennebunk. You can see my reviews of these properties. We booked a suite and it had a nice sitting area, large closets and tons of drawers, and of course the Westin Heavenly Bed. Our room also had a refrigerator in it, however, housekeeping neglected to throw out the last guests (at least I hope it was the last guests) food. All in all we were please with the comfort of our accommodations. They also had a car to take us to dinner as well as pick us up. Unlike the Ritz Boston Commons
that only offered their car from 6-8 PM and could not even find the car at times. This was much better and for a fraction of the cost.

They also have a lounge upstairs but we did not find it comfortable. Glaring lights in your eyes and mediocre service. Not the relaxing atmosphere we were looking for.

Room Tip: Suites are large and very comfortable.
