I recently stayed at The West End for two night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Inn is in a beautiful quite tree lined neighborhood and we were able to walk to the old port section of town. The inn keepers were very attentive and breakfasts were delicious. I will be staying there whenever I return to Portland.

The B&B was very pretty, and the breakfasts were good, even though they did forget I was gluten free. But it is so noisy I couldn't sleep. It was for several reasons. People upstais walking around, and you can hear people talking out on the street. Being close by Amtrak is not their fault, not is the fact that they are in a flight path. however, if they would redo tehir windows, it would be a tremendous help. The windows are the old wooden ones are really worn. Also, it is not a conducive location for a business trip. My fault. I had no car and had to rely on business people to pick me up etc. I am grateful for those wonderful people in Portland! Thanks Liz and Jeannine!

Room Tip: Try and find out if your room is facing a busy street.

Dear Brenda B.,
Our bed and breakfast is in an 1871 Victorian townhouse located in a historic neighborhood governed by the city of Portland's historic district. The historic district rarely permits window replacement . Our windows are original to the house and are in decent working order given their age of 142 years. This is the first time in our nearly 2 years as owner/operators of the b&b that we have received feedback that the b&b is noisy. You may notice the review above this one is titled "wonderful b&b in a quiet neighborhood". Feedback like this is what we are accustom to hearing.

We did not forget your request for gluten free breakfast choices. Our kitchen was prepared and ready to offer our menu with gluten free flours or breads, however the server did not realize your dietary preference. We don't usually require a prompt, but had you mentioned it, we would have delighted you with breakfast as this is the feedback we get from folks who request gluten free.
Sincerely, Deb and Scott

My husband and I recently stayed at this inn for one night while we were passing through Portland. The inn, itself, is extremely charming, and well located in the west end. Just a few short blocks and you can enjoy the sunsets from the western promenade. The decor is updated, but in keeping with the beauty of the original victorian home, and our room was lovely. The rooms are not large, but what they may lack in size, they make up for in appeal, airiness, and charm. The bathroom was also surprisingly large. Overall, the room and bathroom were immaculate, and we loved the decor. The breakfast that we had was AMAZING. Delicious coffee, tasty granola and muffins there for the taking, and a wonderful choice of 4 entrees (we both got the omelette, and it was delicious). The service is a little choppy/clunky in that you first sit down, then the server brings you a menu....then they come back for your order, etc. It would be great if the menus were just there, and your order was taken first thing. There is a concierge (I think his name was James), who was very pleasant, and chatted with us on arrival. The owners are not the most outwardly social/friendly innkeepers I've encountered, but they are very nice, and were very accommodating (I needed ice for our cooler, and they were very polite to provide it).

The sunsets from the Western Prom can be spectacular, looking out to New Hampshire and the White Mountains in the distance. We are pleased you enjoyed our decor, your room and our breakfast offerings. Our breakfast menu changes daily. In an effort to "save a tree", we print 3 to 4 menus each day which move about the dining room as guests arrive for breakfast. Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us. Best regards, Deb&Scott

Faultless. We stayed with our two children (boys 15 and 16) in two rooms. We arrived having first been in NYC followed by Cape Cod. Portland and specifically the West End Inn had a lot to match up to, and match up they did. Large, comfortable and clean rooms are always a winner and these were. Deb provided unassuming guidance to us, very welcome, equalled by the wonderful breakfasts prepared by Scott. We loved the location as it was only a few minutes drive from the city centre, but quiet and peaceful at the West End Inn. We would be very happy to return. Deb & Scott, thanks.

Innkeeper, Deb was very helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious with many options including homemade organic granola available every morning with yogurt and dried fruit, in addition to a choice of 3 entrees. In a neighborhood with other historic homes and a nice 15 min. walk to Portland museum and restaurants. Glad we picked this inn from the many Portland options.

We do! We've stayed here many times, and the new owners have done a good job continuing the welcome and improving on the offerings of delicious breakfasts. The banana-walnut pancakes were my personal favorite, with a side of thick-sliced bacon. They have created a vegetable juice drink that will awaken you for sure (fresh ginger is one ingredient). The omelet was cooked to order: my husband likes it very moist, and apparently Scott likes to cook it that way:) The location is very quiet, yet an easy walk to great restaurants. We're hoping Scott and Deb will find a way (time and money) to install grab bars and shelves in the shower enclosures:)

Thank you again for taking the time to write a review of your latest experience at the inn. It was a pleasure to have you stay with us. We look forward to seeing you next year. If there are no maintenance surprises, we should be able to address some bathroom updates in your favorite room this winter. Cheers! Deb&Scott

Perfectly decorated, the guests' needs thought of by the owners, great breakfast. It's not often that you happen upon a B &B where you don't think at least once about something they could have done to make your stay better. There was just a feeling that your questions were already answered before you had them. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom huge with vanity lighting, parking was explained in detail and a map and a list if nearby restaurants was provided. We picked a hip little French bistro that was suggested a ten minute walk away. The food and service were great. After that we walked an additonal ten or fifteen down the hill to the old port area, which is great, if a little too full of college age kids for my liking. A cab ride back was less than $10. The maintenance of this historic home is excellence, we even took pictures of the paint colors. I personally was pleased about the bottle of body lotion provided by the sink, it seemed representative of the thoughtfulness and nice touches put into the place. Breakfast was great and she had a nice option for late sleepers. Lastly, we booked at the last minute because we left it too late and had previously had to book somewhere less desirable. We were lucky to have stumbled upon a cancellation here during a last minute search. When we checked out, Deb saw that we paid online and said they had a last minute rate that was cheaper than what we paid and actually credited us back forty bucks. We were impressed with the level of honesty on top of everything else. Would definitely stay here again!! Very central and comfortable.
