WE took the ferry over to Peaks with our bikes in tow, and what a lovely ride around the island. My husband rented a bike, but the rest of us had one ($10 for 2 hours). The road circumnavigating the island took us just 50 mins. to complete and it's great---I hate hills and this had almost none. Great views of the islands, of looking back at Portland, at the other bright yellow Casco Bay ferries zipping by, and of at least 4 lighthouses, including Portland Head Light. We ate at Peak's Cafe and had very good sandwiches outside under an umbrella. Not to be left out was the Umbrella Cover Museum, admittedly kind of weird. These are the COVERS, not the umbrellas. But, the proprietor is VERY enthusiastic. All in all, we spent about 2 1/2 hours there and it was a lovely, quiet island with a LOT of houses, many for rent. Not much to do otherwise, very few shops, would be a great place for a honeymoon, or an artist!
