“Fantastic B and B in a fantastic town”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 via mobile

We stayed a couple of nights here, and could easily have stayed longer. Our "suite" gave us ample space to spread out and relax after a couple of smaller places. David was a wonderful host, and seemed to have thought of every detail to make guest's stays comfortable and convenient. Including a great dvd selection to dip into (and sweets!) on that inevitable night when we were too tired to go out. Whoever posted on here about great home made breakfasts including lobster omelette was not kidding btw.

We spent one night at the Morrill Mansion Inn and wish we could have stayed longer in Portland. The Inn is beautifully decorated and furnished, David is the perfect host, and the buffet breakfast was superb. David had such thoughtful touches throughout the room and delicious goodies available in the parlors upstairs and down. We highly recommend this Inn!

Spent a delightful night in Portland at MM. David was the perfect host, full of information about restaurants and directions to places we wanted to visit (including printed suggestions with directions!). Room was comfortable with attention paid to anticipating our every need including chocolate chip bars left in the reading room on the second floor. Breakfast was wonderful. I enjoyed the egg scramble and potatoes and fresh fruit while my husband enjoyed the homemade bread pudding! Thank you, David!

The accommodations, breakfast and location of MM are excellent. David had new and interesting items for breakfast every day. We even had lobster and scrambled eggs one morning. All very tasty, fresh and homemade. David has two room set aside as guest living rooms. One was right across the hall from our room. It was equipped with hot water, tea bags, coffee singles, lemonade and a homemade snack. Chairs were leather lounge chairs - very comfortable. I used the room to write in our trip journal. There are at least 10 restaurants within easy walking distance of the MM. David thought of everything in decorating the rooms. We'd go back in a minute.

Stayed at this B&B back in August and wish I could have left a review sooner. David was an excellent host! He takes such pride in the cleanliness, presentation, and deliciousness of the breakfast. Each morning there was a home cooked meal from eggs to lobster souffle to cakes and homemade puddings. There was so much thought put into every meal. He made great suggestions on where to go and things to do. I was traveling with a friend and mentioned we might stop at the beach for the day so he brought us towels and two chairs to take with us just in case! It was a short 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the city (waterfront and downtown restaurants). I always felt safe walking at night (2 girls late at night). There was always a baked good (cookie, cupcake, etc) waiting for us when we returned and plenty of movies/chips to go around! I could not have been more happy with the location and stay at the Mansion and will definitely return next time I am in Portland!

David, the charming owner, welcomes you at the door and makes certain that your stay is perfect. He is a wealth of knowledge about restaurants and things to do in Portland. The inn has everything you could want in a place to stay. David provides coffee/tea and homemade cookies or brownies or fudge in the common sitting areas at all times, and he makes a delightful breakfast each morning. The rooms are comfortable and immaculate. We will stay here again.

This was a return visit to the Morrill Mansion, 3 years after our first visit. We stayed in the Bramhall Room, which is located on the 3rd floor. Described as a "junior suite" on the B&B's website, it is larger than the basic rooms, with a seating area.

The room itself is quite comfortable, with a ceiling fan over the bed and a 2nd, smaller ceiling fan over the seating area. The day we arrived it was uncharacteristically warm for Portland, almost 90 degrees. Fortunately, the room air conditioner had obviously been running for some time, and the room was blessedly cool. Bed linens are very nice and mattress was firm. The room is equipped with a functional closet, a full-length mirror, and a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water. Wi-Fi signal is good.

The bathroom is adequate but not luxurious (not nearly as nice as the bathroom in the Burnham room, where we had stayed before). There is a smallish modern bathtub with a shower attachment -- water pressure and temperature are good but the shower is a bit cramped. The rest of the bathroom facilities are compact, but the room has been outfitted with shelving that does suffice for storage of guest's toiletries. The bath towels are plush and generously sized and the room is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel.

Breakfast at the Morrill Mansion is served as a buffet, available over the course of about 2 hours. The morning we were there, breakfast included eggs scrambled with sausage & peppers, hash-browned potatoes, scrumptious home-made pastries (blueberry scones, raspberry tart, and a raspberry-apple crisp), fresh melon & pineapple, as well as various hot & cold drinks. Delicious and ample.

In addition, snacks are available 24/7 in the 2nd floor lounge. In addition to packaged snacks (pretzels, chips), there were home-baked cupcakes and pink lemonade when we were there.

David is a gracious and helpful host. He is more reserved then many of the B&B proprietors that we've encountered in our travels, but that's just his personality. He is welcoming and full of advice as to restaurants and site-seeing, if you are in need of such assistance.

We will return.
