“Visually exciting”

The Pomegranate Inn is a must-stay if you are looking for something special. The inn has interesting art and beautiful surrounding, with lots of attention to detail. Given the limited hotels in the Portland area and if you are looking for something different,, this B&B is it. Take a look at their website for things to do and places to eat - they've done the work for you! Keep in mind that you are in a residential neighborhood and parking is limited with parking restrictions.

Room Tip: Rooms are viewable on the website.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed the unique and "visually exciting" look of the inn. It's also nice to hear that our "things to do" section on the website helped you plan your stay and contributed to a fun visit. We greatly appreciate your kind review and hope you choose to stay with us again if your travels bring you back East.

On our one week tour of Maine we stayed (unfortunately!!) just one night in Portland at the Pomegranate Inn. Our experience was very positive, the Inn is lavishly decorated in a fantastic way, done with a lot of "gusto" and we had a very nice room. We where received in a very friendly and service minded way receiving a lot of advice what to see and where to dine in Portland. The breakfast was very good and for once not as abundant and heavy as in many other places which we as Europeans where very grateful for. We would be very pleased to come back.

We love that -- decorated with "gusto!" What a great description of our eclectic inn. We so appreciate your thoughtful words about our breakfasts and we hope that you can stay longer if ever you visit from Spain again!

Our room, #7, was one we stayed in 5 years ago on the basement level. While a charming room it looked exactly the same and could definitely use some updating and refurbishing. Our private outdoor patio was unkempt and not very inviting. The overall landscaping needed attention. Fortunately the weather was nice and we did not mind having to walk outside to reenter in the front for breakfast. Excellent breakfast and friendly enough staff. Good location for downtown Portland. Overall we expected more for the price.

Room Tip: I would not recommend the lower level room we had.

We are pleased you enjoyed our excellent breakfasts and the great service of henrY and Erin. Thank you for bringing the state of the garden to our attention. It's been a crazy busy summer and we hadn't realized our garden guy hadn't been by since June. We are on it!

We recently spent a night at the Pomegranate Inn. When we arrived to check in, at about 6 p.m., we rang the bell (the front door is locked). No one came despite waiting about about 5 minutes. Finally a guest left and we walked in before the door closed. We looked around for someone to check us in and found one of the resident managers who showed us to our room. We were in #6 which was nice enough, though a bit cramped.
As others have noted, there is art everywhere - there are very few surfaces or walls on which there is no art and it is an extremely eclectic collection. We liked it but others may find it a bit much. Please note: if you are about my height (5 ft. 1 in.), you may have trouble with the bed in room #6 because the top of the mattress is just under 3 ft. off the floor.
The breakfast was ok but nothing special and is only served for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30 so if you want to sleep late, plan on missing breakfast.
There are 3 parking spaces available to the inn but all 3 were continuously occupied while we were there. You can park on the street overnight. From 9 a.m. on, there is a limit of 2 hours for street parking so you will need to move your car by 11 a.m.
henrY, one of the resident managers (and, yes, that is how he spells his name) is a photographer and is interesting to talk with.
Our major problem was with the cost. One night was $269 plus taxes which brought the total to $287.83 for our room. Other rooms cost more. We had a $200 gift certificate we had to use or we would never have stayed here as we know Portland has better and less expensive options.

Room Tip: See note re: bed above.

We apologize that we did not hear the doorbell. Unfortunately, It can get loud when you are baking in the kitchen, which is why we post our cell phone number on the door.

We are pleased that you enjoyed talking with henrY and viewing our eclectic art collection. Our collection and the curated furniture and decor are part of what make Pomegranate Inn so unique as a Portland accommodation. One of the reasons Portland is so great is that it offers a variety of options when choosing where to stay. There are many chain hotels to chose from that may offer different pricing.

We understand that our breakfast hours may not be suitable for everyone, which is why we offer the option to have breakfast waiting for you outside your door.

This one-star rating is based upon an unfortunate experience that happened at the Pomegranate Inn. Reservations for 2 rooms had been made 6 months in advance for our August stay with our daughter and son-in-law to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Upon arrival at the Inn we were told that there was no record of one room's reservation and the manager would honor neither our email confirmation nor our credit card statement that showed 2 rooms having been paid for. Although we had arrived at the earliest check-in time and well before the majority of guests had arrived, the manager insisted on saving all the empty rooms for later-arriving guests. Our protests fell upon deaf ears, the manager was adamant that two of us would need to move to another hotel. A room was found in another part of Portland and our daughter and son-in-law reluctantly left the Pomegranate Inn. To sum up, we felt that some sort of discrimination had taken place and an occasion that had been eagerly anticipated for 6 months turned out to be a big disappointment.

We sincerely apologize for the reservation error and that your long-planned getaway was not as you envisioned. We wish that our efforts to make it right had made your experience a more pleasant one. We do our very best to ensure that reservation glitches never happen. Unfortunately, this is one of those very rare cases in which a reservation made six months ago under prior management did not get transferred properly into our new system. We simply had only one room reservation on record for your party. As we had no way of knowing when any other guest with confirmed reservations would check in that evening (with other rooms in town possibly filled and unavailable by then at the height of summer), we tried to work with you early on to find the right accommodations for you. We tried get two rooms at the same high-end property on the waterfront so your party could stay together. We paid for parking at the other hotel, offered to have your daughter and son-in-law come over for breakfast and ensured rate parity for you. Again, we are very sorry our efforts to remedy the situation did not make a positive impact and allow you to enjoy time together with your family.

A great location. Close to waterfront but on a quiet street. The hosts were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. We would stay here again if traveling Portland. Great restaurants nearby.

My husband and I had stayed at the Pomegranate many years ago, and because we were attending a wedding in the area, we decided to stay afterwards for several days to enjoy the city. The Pomegranate was as lovely as we remembered and even more enjoyable this time. The house is gorgeous, the food is exceptional (including the afternoon cookies), the room (#2) was a pleasure (where else can one wake up gazing into the eyes of an elephant?), and, very importantly, Erin and HenrY were generous, gracious hosts. Walking the neighborhoods of the West End was a pleasure, and we appreciated that we could walk to the Museum of Art, restaurants (Miyake on Fore Street was spectacular), shops (Lovell Hall and Longfellow Books are favorites), the waterfront, etc. etc. The living room was such a nice place to spend time (appreciated the inn having The New York Times), and each piece of art in the rooms and hallways were remarkable.

Room Tip: All of the rooms that we saw were unique and well designed. The bathroom ceiling in Rm 2 could pos...

We are so glad you returned to the Pomegranate Inn and loved it even more! Erin and henrY are great hosts and we are so glad you enjoyed their hospitality and the artistic, relaxed vibe of the inn. Erin is quite the chef and baker and it is so nice to hear that you enjoyed breakfast and afternoon treats. Please do visit us again the next time your travels bring you to Portland.
