Great place to get away for a night or a weekend. We stayed for just one night and was still able to get a taste for the Maine coast. Right on the water front, close to all the shops and restaurants. Walking diatance to everything so you didn't need a car to get around. There were many choices for dinner and great pub alley for the guys while the ladies shopped. The restaurants on the water gave you a great view of the Maine coast and the boating community. If you are driving, the ride along coastal route was just as enjoyable to take in the views.

After trying Hilton and Regency, we ended up at the Holiday Inn. The rooms were spacious and clean and the beds were super comfy. the view on the 11h floor was outstanding. The price was wonderful compared to the first two hotels. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location was perfect. Parking was free. Fantastic Art Museum across the street. Great restaurants and bars within walking distance. We ate at Becky's Diner for breakkfast, down the street. For dinner, since it was cold on the last night of our stay, we ate at holiday inn restaurant- steamed lobster was superb and price was right. wish we had stayed here the whole time.

While the lounge staff wasgreat, the Port of Call restaurant was a big disappointment.
I am 60 years old and this is the worst restaurant experience ever and I have been to many.
Waitress knew we were on a schedule, but it took her a looonnng time to wait on us and was very rude. She actually told us that if we wanted to save time we should not order a cocktail and we should take our check to the register as she was too busy.

They also add a 20% gratuity to your bill no matter what - maybe that iswhy the waitress felt she was safe to be so rotten to us.

Traveled from Bangor to attend the Sheryl Crow concert. The location was great with a two minute walk to the Civic Center; however, that is where it goes south. Starting with the check in, which was fast, but not overly friendly, the front desk agent could have been more helpful with respect to amenities of the facilitiy (which there aint many). Had meal at the Port of Call property restaurant. SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE to put it nicely. What our server lacked in customer service she made up in bad attitude. With a very workable customer- to- server ratio of about 8 to 1, our server managed to forget we were there until it came time for our bill, which a 20% gratuity was added on, without our knowledge or consent. The hostess was aware of our experience and did nothing for service recovery. The only highlight was that the staff in the property lounge were excellent, even when challenged by a post concert rush. At least they were professionals.Holiday Inn by the Bay you should contact Hollywood Slots in Bangor to learn about customer service in the hospitality industry..

The Holiday Inn by the Bay is in the most convenient location in Portland, especially if you are going to attend any event at the Cumberland County Civic Center. When we checked in, it was clear from the number of people at the front desk complaining about their rooms that things weren't going well. I figured we were all set-we had reserved a handicap-accessible room. Well, when we arrived in our room, we were shocked to find there was simply a full size bed, not two doubles or a king...even a queen would have worked! We called the desk, and said that IS the handicapped accessible room, and that if we wanted, they would bring a cot up. We asked for them to do so, and a cot never arrived. We made it through the evening in a small bed, but I thought that the website was misleading when it described the handicapped accessible room. When I mentioned this at check out, they said that most hotels have smaller beds in these rooms. I have stayed in other hotels and this has NOT been the case. The elevators were also small and inefficient...the rooms were clean. I would stay here again if I needed to be in a good location with free parking, but I would be sure not to book a handicapped accessible room.

I was skeptical, due to prior reviews, but our room (1 king bed on the 8th floor overlooking the harbour) was very nice! Super clean, comfy bed and blankets, and a nice view. Hint- sign up for the free Priority Rewards club, then show your card for a bag of goodies when you check in! The staff was very friendly, and each bartender that we chatted with in the evenings were great - and the popcorn was fabulous!
The Keurig coffee machine and travel cups were perfect!
The location is just right - the old port area really isn't that big and very easy to walk around; leave your car in it's free parking spot! We were very pleased with the room and would definitely stay here again.

I'm a Priority Club member and this is my third year staying at this property. Service from front desk, reservations, and bar were poor to say the least. Requested mini-fridge in advance of arrival, as well as upon arrival and did not get it. (A relative 2 floors below got a room with a mini-fridge and she did not request it!!!) Upon arrival to the room, we discovered a wet, dirty towel on the back of the bathroom door, left behind from the previous guest and not cleaned by housekeeping. I threw that in the hall and let a passing staff member know. Pool was full of screaming children, jumping and splashing. After all of this, we did not even try to eat there for breakfast. I guess we'll try Hilton next year.
