“Caught an ENORMOUS Lobster”

Captain Jack Lobster Boat Adventure
Reviewed 26 June 2014

They caught a lobster that was too big to keep! These guys did a great job answering questions and explaining what they do. They are very friendly. We had a great time! You can even buy some of the catch before you leave.

Captain Jack (Steve) is a terrific guy who has been lobstering most all his life. He and his helper were entertaining, informative and very pleasant to spend time with. This excursion gives you a real sense of what a lobster-man does.

We took our 4 and 6 year olds on the boat. I would highly recommend this trip for small kids. It's about an hour which is just the right amount of time to ask little kids to sit on a boat. The boat is fairly small and will only take 6 passengers at a time. You are not actually lobster fishing but are watching the captain and first mate haul out the traps. The kids can touch the lobsters and anything else that gets trapped in the traps. In addition to the lobsters, we saw different types of crabs, sea snails, sea stars, urchins and little fish. Our kids brought buckets and got to keep the little fish and sea snails. There is no prepared speach on board but if you ask questions they are very knowledgeable about the sea life but also the local area. A family with small kids will definately enjoy!! Apply sunscreen and bring a wind jacket for little kids (gets chilly). They have life jackets so no need to bring. No bathroom, so make sure little ones take a bathroom break prior to boarding. Parking is free at the harbor.

We visited in May 2014, and enjoyed our trip on Captain Jack's boat. We were surprised to find that most of the tour was conducted by his 1st mate, Robbie, but Robbie was very informative and able to answer our questions. The tour consisted of about 60-75 minutes of visiting about 20 traps around the bay and discovering what was in the traps. It was a very beautiful ride!

In order to get information on this tour, we had to ask a lot of questions, there wasn't much of a prepared speech or talk. But when we did ask questions we got detailed and informative answers. We learned a lot about lobsters, how to catch them, what the laws are about it, and what the life of a lobster-man looks like.

If you want to see some lobster-men at work, this is a good tour! Steve and Robbie are a bit crude and bickered like an old married couple, but seemed generally good-natured.

Nice mid October day, took the tour.Captain and his first mate very pleasant. Taught us, my wife, me and our son alot about lobster trapping, Identifying males and females, what's a legal catch, types of crabs caught in the traps too as well as other little sea creatures that come up in the traps.Saw a seal and some interesting birds like a Guilliote etc. Nice way to spend an hour and half or so. Our son loved it. And then have a nice lunch before or after at the restaurants nearby.
