“Sail in Acadia not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2011

Our family visited Acadia National Park the first week of July. Thor met us in NE Harbor and took us out for a day on Somes sound. He has years of sailing and instructing experience and made us feel extremely comfortable. He had a great demeanor with the kids (19,17,15) and got just the right blend of instruction and fun. Getting to tack a 30 foot sailboat was a highlight of our Acadia trip for our teens and the beauty of Somes Sound is spectacular. Not to be missed!

“Instructor was fantastic and Stand Up Paddling was a blast!! Loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2011

Tried Stand Up Paddling for the first time and was fortunate enough to have Thor Emory as our teacher. Thor is amazing ... he made us laugh and feel totally comfortable all afternoon. We paddled around a lake in Camden, Maine for a few hours and loved every minute of it. We were worried about looking foolish in front of the instructor until we got to the lake but after five minutes, it was like we were hanging out with someone we'd known for years. Thor was able to teach two totally unskilled people to SUP in one session. He got me hooked so now I want to buy a board. We're sailing with him next time and can't wait. I highly recommend Thorfinn Expeditions and want everyone I know to get out there on the water with this guy. Excellent experience ... everything about the day was perfect and fun!

“We had a blast sailing and exploring with Thor. Safe fun, beautiful up-close scenery and super company.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2011

We had a blast cruising the Florida Everglades and 10,000 Islands for five days on the sailing vessel Thorfinn. Captain Thor Emory is fun and the boat is comfortable and fast. With her shallow draft, we could explore the nooks and crannies of the earth that are inaccessible to other people. Our favorite parts of the trip were sailing in shallow water and then landing on beaches to step ashore easily. We got as much island exploration as we wanted, since Thor accommodates guests' preferences.
Michael and I slept comfortably in the V berth forward and sat or stood easily in the large cockpit. We would have liked some shade.
Though it was February, south Florida was warm and sunny for our entire five days. And because it was February, we had no biting insects.
We've gone out for a few hours' sail on the Presto 30 in Newport and loved sailing close to land, and being able to step ashore. Our preference is for the longer trips because they carry us into a different world where we live for a while.
Binoculars, sturdy sandals, deck shoes, good wide-brimmed strap-down hats, rain gear, and clothing for cool evenings are important.
