“Excellent”

A restaurant worth going out of your way. The food is excellent-- much of it from their gardens or raised fowl. I try the upstairs lounge and sit at the bar-- the drinks are prepared by skilled and friendly bartenders-- overall a great experience.

“Great food”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

We have been to Primo's several times. We go to the area once a year in the Summer. In this area there are not many "nice" restaurants. All of the food we ordered was excellent from the pizza to the corned beef tongue to the homemade donuts for dessert. Make sure you make a reservation because it get's very busy every night of the week. We went on a Wed. and it was packed!

“A Bit disappointed”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

After all we have heard about Primo, I guess my expectation were high. We thought the environment was attractive, but the service and food feel short. ..they may be riding on their laurels. In this price range ($30+ entrees) I expect real creativity!

“big city in Rockland”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

This very expensive restaurant is on a hill in an old house. By in large the food was excellent but in one entre merely ordinary. The high point for me was an outstanding small amuse of lobster bisque. The service was informal and quite good. The restaurant requires reservations. Apparently, one can eat without reservations in the bar where small plates are available.

“Searching for Sausage”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

August 8, 2014, marked our third trip to Primo in Rockland. We found this visit to be consistent with the other two. The menu and specials offered a wide range of gourmet cuisine. The service was of a good standard. The large wait staff is trained and professional. The prices are as high as expected. The only thing different this time is that my wife and I both remarked on the portion sizes and value. I don't think portions have changed but our reaction upon paying a $110 check was to remark on the portion size of the entree's. In my case, it was really disappointing that there was so little of the homemade spicy sausage that highlighted my pasta dish. I savored every little six or seven bits but come on! A dish like this would cost $18 - $20 at a lesser restaurant and would have had one-third more food and one wouldn't have to search for sausage. Here, the price was $30.The fact that we split a very nice salad and ordered wonderful profiteroles for desert meant we didn't leave hungry and enjoyed the experience (although our otherwise thoughtful waitress entirely forgot a second drink order and we chose not to remind her).

We would still recommend the restaurant, especially for first-timers interested in fine dining and a large and creative menu. But we both agreed that the value aspect has, for us, assumed a somewhat different and more important share of how we think of Primo. Wonderful food but just a bit of a let-down.
