“Worth the visit.”

Maine Lighthouse Museum

We thought the lighthouse Museum well worth the visit and could have spent more time.
The charming lady was a little crestfallen when we pd. our very inexpensive admission by credit card.
We could have spent much more than the hour we had to see more in detail. On the way out the Lady who had taken our money was so sweet we gave a further CASH donation of $10.00. She was most appreciative. We plan to return.

I learned a few things by walking around but def wouldn't take any children there. It would be better if they added some interactive exhibits

We had been to Rockland before, this time we decided to visit the Rockland Breakwater. As we were looking for a place to lunch after, we found the museum & decided to check it out. It cost 5.00 for adults, I believe it's 4 for seniors. There are short videos & tons of displays & facts about lighthouses. Especially cool is the map showing all the lighthouses in Maine. While the museum is well done with many exhibits, what makes it shine is the volunteers. We were fortunate to have a woman whose dad was a lighthouse keeper. It was so interesting to hear her stories about growing up in lighthouses. She & her family had lived in the Owls Head lighthouse which isn't far from Rockland. It is well worth your time to visit this gem, if you have any interest in lighthouses.
There is a gift shop & if you've been to the Breakwater this is where you can pick up your souvenirs, if you went when the lighthouse wasn't open.
Make it a day trip, the Breakwater, the Museum, lunch (there a ton of restaurants in Rockland), then Owls Head. Then stop at the Owls Head General store, treat yourself to a cookie while you write out your postcards then mail your postcards at the PO next door.

Loved the exhibits! It is historically very informative. The reception was great and the knowledge expressed is more than what we expected. The visit lead us to see Breakwater and Owl Head lighthouses. A visit to the museum is a must.

Not only is this a great place to check out, but there is a visitor's center in the lobby, and all the workers are friendly and knowledgable about the area. We are so glad we went!
