“Wonderful stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

We had a two night stay at the resort and just did not want to leave. Our room was an oceanfront overlooking the golf course and out to the lighthouse. It was wonderful and so relaxing. We will definitely return here in the future.

Close to dozens of fantastic restaurants, many attractions, lots of activities. Incredible views from all balcony rooms/suites. I am not a golfer, but it looks like a breathtaking golf course. Excellent service. Clean, quiet guest rooms. Although a few areas of this property are a little shop-worn, the resort is a fantastic Mid-Coast Maine hotel. Comfortable beds! We celebrated our aniniversary here in May, and were treated to chocolate-covered strawberries. Nice touch. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Fourth Floor Suites are quiet, with breathtaking water views from huge balconies.

We've stayed here twice- July 2013 and just back from a 3 day stay July 2014. There are many wonderful things about this resort- location, friendly staff, comfortable but slightly dated decor. However, the restaurant does not cut it. 2 days in a row we had lunch in the dining room and the waitresses knew nothing about the menu whatsoever (they were both about 12 years old). My dad had a burger and discovered something very tough on top of the beef- turns out it was pancetta but the waitress had no idea what it was or that the burger even came with pancetta. She was equally clueless about the other items on the menu and brought out the lobster bisque at the same time as the entree. We were also bothered by the claim to be environmentally responsible while there's a mini-fridge running full-time in every room. I bet they are only used by half the guests. Why not put them on a flip-switch so the guest has the option to use it or not?

Genteel service at every turn, friendly and warm without pretension, with attention to detail that is as good as anywhere I've been. Just spent a week there, and many of the staff were familiar from the past few summers. Knowing that turnover is a big challenge in the hospitality industry, it speaks volumes how many of the staff return season after season. Ray, the starter at the golf course, has been there for years, and is quite a character. Each summer we've returned they have made new improvements, whether modest like replacing charcoal grills with gas grills and adding a delightful picnic area or a few years ago when they overhauled the spa and restaurants, taking them from nice to exceptional. The views of the breakwater and bay are phenomenal, and the golf course is meticulously maintained with stunning play along the ocean. Whether you are there for an active, outdoorsy vacation or just to hang around the beautiful pool with a cold beverage you are in for a treat.

Dear Tracy K,

I am fortunate enough to read predominately positive reviews on our TripAdvisor account. Each and every one is truly appreciated as a reminder of why we all do what we do at the Samoset.

Your review, in particular, made a strong impression. Your understanding of what we have been striving to accomplish at the Samoset is a reflection of all our hard work and thoughtful planning. I see from your TripAdvisor account that you are a Senior Contributor. It is clear your keen eye for details is part of such a designation.

Your mention of Ray, our golf starter, is so thoughtful. He is more a part of the Samoset culture than anyone else here as he first came to the property in the 1930’s (yes, you read that correctly!) as a caddy and has been with us ever since. We just celebrated his 94th birthday a few weeks ago.

We look forward to seeing again for a return visit.

With Warm Hospitality,

Cornelius J. Russell

Upon arrival we were upgraded to oceanfront balcony with double queens. We really appreciated this little perk that came as soon as we walked in. Impressive outdoor bar and accommodations were flawless. Very quiet setting all around. Walked out to the breakwater and watched the schooners sail by on the way out on their weeklong jaunts. An absolutely fabulous spot for a little getaway. Planning on returning in winter as the fireplace looked very inviting.

Room Tip: Ocean front really worth it.

Dear Connie989,

Words such as flawless, fabulous, and impressive are what we aim for when our guests walk through the door. I was glad to read of your upgrade and the see that you fully enjoyed your stay with us. Although I can’t exactly take credit for the perfect vision of a sailing schooner passing by the Rockland breakwater, I absolutely appreciate such a view right along with you.
