“Charming Motor Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2012

We stayed here two nights and then booked an additional night later in the week on our way back to the Portland airport. Our first room was not renovated but had a nice color scheme and a sliding-glass door that provided fresh air and a scenic tree view. Our second stay was in a lovely renovated room. Both rooms had comfortable beds. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated the hikes suggested in the hotel's guide book. We took the Beech Hill Road hike and it was easy and amazing. This hiking trail is on a blueberry farm and is a must-do that I haven't been able to find listed anywhere! The hotel is a great location to Rockport harbor, Camden, and the antique toy museum 13 miles away. Some guests can be rude and stomp instead of walking across the wood deck in front of most of the rooms, or talking loudly outside your door, but that has nothing to do with the hotel itself. Nice trees and view at the end of the driveway.

Glen Cove was a great retreat for my girlfriend and I to escape work and graduate school. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The doughnuts they serve for breakfast are from a local bakery and were awesome! The staff was really knowledgeable about the local area, and were extremely helpful in pointing us toward activities and restaurants that would be interesting and fun for us. Great escape for couples in a quiet coastal town!

Thought long and hard about our rating of this motel as it is undoubtedly a nice, clean and pleasant motel and in other circumstances we are sure we would have rated it higher. However our rating represents our personal experience at a particular time. I think we have made enough contributions to TA to give us a balanced view.

We booked in as a family and had picked a room with a double bed and a bunk bed as we had our daughter with us. The room was itself nice and comfortable but the issues came when we put our daughter to bed. She is young so this was early on in the evening. Our room (unlike the vast majority of the units) was in the main house on the ground floor so we had people above us. There was quite a bit of noise coming down from above - by this we do not mean excessive loud noise but that the noise travelled. Also when people went up and down the stairs this was very loud as there is no insulation and you can see the stairs from inside our room.
Also the bunk bed was very close to an external door (locked) which had a big draught blowing through it. We ended up covering it with a blanket as our daughter complained she could not get to sleep because of this and the noise above.

We were booked in for 2 night but moved out after one night. Now, this was our experience at a specific time and I am sure if we had older kids it would not have been a problem as the noise did stop early. So, please take this review as it is meant; indeed the motel itself is very nice. It just did not suit us.

We reserved the king room with a waterview. What we got was a tiny stall with a horribly uncomfortable bed and a front "deck" that was a cracked plastic lawn chair on a tiny wood platform with chipped paint that provided us a perfect view of the cars parked 5 feet in front of it. Maybe if I stood on the roof of my car I might have seen the water that was advertised. While the room was clean, paint was cracking, the A/C couldn't cool the room below the temperature outside, and the TV was circa 1990. Even the continental breakfast was stale. The only redeeming quality of this motel was its convenient location between Rockport and Camden. I am just glad we got in late and left early from this place. If we had paid $50/night, I might not be so critical, but for $115 this place was awful.

It is very disappointing for us at Glen Cove when a guest has a stay with us that falls short of their expectations. However, it is far more upsetting to us when the guest does not make us aware of their disappointment. We would welcome the opportunity to do all that we can do to make a guest happy and have their visit be wonderful while they are here staying with us.

We are happy to move a guest who is unhappy with their room to another room if we can. We have a terrific maintenance man that could have adjusted the controls on the air conditioner or replaced it completely with another unit given the chance to. Any breakfast item that was not fresh would have been addressed immediately. At the end of the season we will be painting many of the 50 decks (that allow guests to enjoy the views and extensive property landscaping) that have any peeling paint and have not yet been converted to the very best maintenance free composite decking.

Over the last few years we have been undergoing a very ambitious $750,000 5 year renovation plan to update the Glen Cove Inn to all the modern conveniences. Although we are not quite there yet we are about 75% done. This winter we will be finishing our upgrades of Flat Screen Televisions, Air Conditioners, Beds & Bedding & Linens and enhancing the Wireless Internet to accommodate the explosion of all the new wireless devices. We will also continue as always to provide a clean room, friendly service, knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices and the commitment to make all guests as happy as we can.

It is always a juggling act to ensure that all of our guest’s are happy, but we are committed to do just that. If someone does not make us aware of their unhappiness we do not have a chance to make it better. We apologize to any guest who has not made us aware and have left disappointed. Although Rome wasn’t built in a day we are ambitious enough to make the next 90 years as good as the last 90 years serving guests visiting all that Midcoast Maine has to offer!

This delightful Maine cottage/hotel overlooks the Penobscot Bay and is located between Rockland and Camden. Reservations are easy to make either on-line or by phone, and the staff is efficient, full of local information, personable, and easy to work with. In addition to single rooms, this Inn offers a wonderful 2 bedroom, 3-bed with kitchen, and living room suite for an extremely affordable charge. You can sit out on the porch, use the pristine in-ground pool, and have a very varied, bakery fresh, included, breakfast each day you are there. The rooms are extremely clean, and this suite includes a full-sized washer and dryer in the room. The kitchen is very easy to use with a full stove, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher, and includes basic kitchen utensils, plates, pots, and pans. We have stayed in this suite twice over the last year and a half, and it has been thoroughly enjoyable each time!

Room Tip: You may choose easily accessible ground floor lodging or lovely view upstairs suites.

Really neat little place with a view! Rooms are clean, nice and most have little decks with chairs. Breakfast was more than ample: eggs, yogurt, fresh doughnuts, cereals and fruit. Would love to stay next visit....maybe for a longer stay.

A wonderful suprise to "happen onto" this delightful motel. Clean, nicely decorated rooms, heated pool with a view. Free wi-fi of course. Continental breakfast included on a lovely porch surrounded by gorgeous flowers. Chairs on the porches in front of each room for relaxing.
We returned for 2 additional night stays as our schedule allowed. Very reasonable rates. Excellent!!!

Room Tip: They do have rooms with "a view" but we were not able to book one.
