Mountain Spring Farm B&B

The other reviews talk all about the food -- they are correct: Anne makes an amazing breakfast that is perfect for skiers who want to hit the slopes with a belly full of great food.

What I really like about this place is that Barry and Anne treat you like family. If you're looking for a sterile get-in-get-out hotel, well, this isn't the place. If you would like to meet two really interesting cool people who will do what ever it takes to make you completely delighted with your stay, this is your place.

For dog owners, you can feel confident that your pooch will be well cared for if you leave your creature with Anne when you go out for the day or for dinner.

I can't think of a place I'd rather stay next time I'm in the area. Thanks Barry, Anne!

The Mountain Spring Farm is nestled in the mountains of Maine on a quaint back road, close by to hiking trails, great restaurants within 15 miles (in nearby Rumford or Bethel), many ponds -lakes and rivers, places to bike ride, museums, antique shopping, and peace and quiet. The farm is owned by Anne & Barry - who treat you like an old friend the minute that you walk in their door. When my husband and I stayed there - we were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. We stayed two nights in the blue butterfly room, which has it's own bathroom - on the first floor. You can hang out in the room with the huge, stone fireplace, watch tv/movies in the front sitting room, or take a walk up and down the beautiful country roads, or just hang out in your room. I snuggled with hubby for a bit, and then watched a British drama, talked with Anne a bit about gardening and whatnot, and then read a bit before bed. In the morning we woke up to find Anne baking a delicious blueberry, custardy french toast concoction, with fresh yogurt, and fruit, juice, and 'just right' coffee. Then we started our day, and went into Rumford and Bethel to have lunch at the Route 2 Diner in Rumford Center, and then dinner at Rooter's Roadhouse in Bethel - two of our favorite spots. Our 2nd night we went out with friends in Bethel, and then danced around a bit at one of the dance places in town. Then back to the Farm, and woke up to another lovely breakfast this time eggs, and bacon, and fresh apple squares, coffee, and good conversation from Anne and Barry.

I would recommend this accomodation at the Mountain Spring Farm to anyone - and hope that you will enjoy it too.

Room Tip: A nice place to stay for a single, a couple, or for a group of friends or relatives. We had a bunch...

We took a short trip to this little farmhouse to ski in the mountains of Maine. We were referred here by Black Mountain of Maine, a small Nordic-oriented ski resort and how pleased we are to have found this place! Barry and Anne are a very intelligent, very friendly retired couple who run this B&B to, as they say, "meet different travelers and have intelligent conversations." The feel of the house is casual and comfortable -- a lot like staying with a favorite relative if they had a farmhouse and were accomplished and generous cooks! They also welcome dogs and, further, provide an invaluable service for dog-owners wanting to ski or engage in other activities in which dogs are unwelcome: they dog sit. And for them, dogsitting means your dog gets to hang around the house and run around the yard with their own two dogs, the adorable Beau and Belle. This casual, multi-dog setup made our pooch, Lupe, immediately comfortable. This in turn made it easy for us to go skiing all day without worry! What a treat!

The breakfasts here are very good -- hearty, plentiful cooking perfect as a precursor to an active day on-mountain. We had a vegetable strata (egg bake with bread) with artichoke hearts, a mexican-themed breakfast casserole with salsa and a decadent blueberry-stuffed french toast. There was also a selection of homefries, toast, bacon and/or sausage. In short, a great meal to keep us skiing until 1 or 2 p.m. or longer.

We recommend this B&B to travelers looking for a comfortable and casual lodging experience for a very reasonable price and to dog owners looking to travel with their best friends. Kudos, Anne and Barry! You have a great B&B!
