“Nice Room, Good Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2008

The staff was friendly and helpful and there was a nice wall map of the area along with many brochures. The rooms were quiet and kept clean. Excellent location near RT1, I-95. Easy access to Portland, Lighthouses, etc..

Only negatives were small TV's and no breakfast seating area in lobby.

I usually stay at Marriott properties because I can get a free stay using my credit card rewards program so I chose the cheapest Marriott in the Portland area and it happened to be this TownePlace in Scarborough.
This trip was for me and my girlfriend for a 4 day getaway from the Arizona heat. We've never been to Maine before so we decided to check it out.
The hotel was excellent! The check in was quick and all of the employees were extremely helpful and polite. They had a computer with internet and a printer in the lobby so that you can print your boarding passes before you leave. The lobby is modern and hip and has a nice area map and tips on where to eat and attractions. They offered a small complimentary breakfast that was cereal, an apple and a breakfast bar. They also offered coffee and juice. Not huge, but it's free and enough food to get you going in the morning.
The hotel is extremely secure as you must have a key to enter the hallways to the rooms. Which gave 2 female travelers peace-of-mind that not just any bum can get inside the hotel.
The room was quiet, clean and modern. We stayed in a studio which is just one room with a bed, sofa, kitchen, desk and a bathroom. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the rooms were quiet enough to be able to sleep in every morning.
The hotel is right across the street from a grocery store and gas station so it is convienent to stock up on things for your long stay.
I do wish that the rooms offered a dvd player in the room so you can rent movies though. Since it is an extended stay hotel, it should have dvd players in the rooms.
I highly recommend this hotel, we had no problems and I would stay here again next time we visit the beautiful state of Maine.

If you are going to have an extended stay at this hotel watch out! After having stayed 3 days and had a great experience, a followup stay for a whole week turned into a disaster.

They informed us that the room was only going to be serviced 3 times during a 7 day stay and would only be completely cleaned once only when we checked in. They did not inform us which days it was going to happen and since I was working in the room with a DND sign they did not service the room 2 days after the first time. We rang reception and complained but to no avail.

The internet service that was supposed to be free had to be re-newed every day and gave us issues.

The oven failed to operate the first time we tried to use it. So I tried to use the grill that had been pushed as a convenience. It was filthy. They fixed the oven the next day.

When we checked out, there were only excuses and no offer of any type of compensation. Beware of what seemed to be a good deal for an extended stay.

At the spur of the moment I found this to be a good value & a clean, comfortable stay. It is within easy driving distance of quiet beach spots as well as active Portland. Its also on a commercial strip w/the Maine Mall just a ways & supermarkets, cinema's & shopping centers galore yet it stands back from the strip & its quiet & remote from all that busy-ness. Only strange thing was a freq dull humming of airplanes(?) overhead which resonated thru the otherwise soundproof rooms.

I stayed at the Townplace Suites in Portland/Scarborough over Chirstmas most recently, and realized that after this - easily my 25th stay - I really needed to write a TripAdvisor review.

The hotel is generally an extended-stay variation, which may though shouldn't discourage people from taking advantage of this Hotel even for short stays.

I'm a Marriott Platinum (100+ nites/year) person, and mention this only because I tend to be a bit snobby when choosing a hotel. I require clean, safe and pleasant lodging, and the Towneplace Suite delvers all that and more for a very low price.

The Hotel is located adjacent to a Residence Inn, which is a few years older. The only real difference between the two is that the Residence Inn offers daily housekeeping (as opposed to the Townplace Suites' periodic housekeeping based upon length of stay) and they have a slightly more substantial breakfast situation.

The Towneplace is a great, economical place to stay in the area. Considering that there are, within 2 miles, a Residence Inn, two Fairfields and a full-service Marriott - I'd rather (and generally do) stay at the Towneplace.

  • Liked — Economical
  • Disliked — Not close to down-town Portland (10 mins)

The hotel has an OK location for a business traveler but the amenities are lacking and the rooms are average. I was not thrilled with the hotel's policy to allow pets in the rooms and many nights I had to complain about a large barking dog that was apparently left by its owners while they went out. One would think that something would be done to correct the problem but nothing was. I would not stay here again.

This was our first experience with an extended-stay hotel, and we were pretty impressed. I never realized how handy it can be to have a full kitchen even on a short trip. This hotel is located not far from 95, and is about a 15 minute drive into downtown Portland. We got a great deal on the Marriott website. The staff was very friendly, and we would definitely stay here again while visiting Portland.
