Our stay at the Capt. A.V. Nichels Inn was a wonderful experience. Upon arriving we were impressed with the size of the Inn, the gracious rooms, period furniture and appointments and the history shared by the Innkeepers. The gourmet breakfast was something to look forward to and the dining areas so inviting. We were sorry to have missed the evening dinner served four days a week.
The Inn is well located, a few miles from the active and interesting town of Belfast and a pleasant hour long drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia.
We enjoyed the long lawn leading down to the sea which makes a great walk. We hope to make a return visit.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Paris room which was beautiful and comfortable if a bit on the dark side. The bathroom is small but the room a generous size. There are many sitting areas in the main rooms downstairs and lovely porches with views to read and rest.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Inn. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. As you mentioned, the Inn is a restored sea captain's home. As such, there are some challenges that we faced in ensuring comfort for our guests. We did not want to destroy the integrity of the home with a full internal rebuild, although that would have allowed us to do things like enlarging some rooms and baths. Our concern was that each room was interesting and comfortable, had lush bedding....and most of all had access to a private bath. Some of them are small, but each has bathroom essentials including a shower and/or tub. We appreciate that you understood that. Hope you will visit us again soon.

We were greeted with a lovely wine and cheese reception which we shared with one other couple. Always fund to meet new folks while on a journey. This historic old seaport hotel has tons of character. The bedrooms, all on the upper floor, are themed to various exotic ports of call. Ours was Istanbul and the decor was appropriately Turkish, with rugs, hammered 'silver' cabinets and decorative pieces. The room was very small, however; there was not room enough to get in and out of both sides of the bed, which as I recall was not queen sized, but was beautifully decked in lavish textiles. The bath, on the other hand, was quite spacious. Breakfast was truly gourmet, perhaps the nicest we have ever enjoyed at a small inn or B & B.

My daughter and I only had time to stay for one night, but I wanted a hotel that was different with a history. What a beautiful hotel! The owners were a delight, and we wished we had time to explore the grounds with a beautiful view of the bay. Each room was decorated with antiques. So comfortable and inviting.

Thank you for your lovely comments on our Inn. It was so nice to meet both you and your daughter. Hope you can visit us again in the near future and stay a little longer. I think you both would enjoy hearing/seeing more of the history of Searsport and the part our Captain Nickels and his family played in that history.

What a delightful stay. Owners Mike and Brenda have lovingly restored this beautiful inn. It is warm and inviting and conducive to getting to know your fellow travelers. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the bay. Breakfasts were amazing. When we return to Maine we would definitely stay there again

Room Tip: I would definitely recommend the Havana Suite.

What a great review you wrote...and we appreciate your comments very much. The fact that you chose us as part of your Honeymoon trip is very special and we are pleased that you were not disappointed. Your comments on the food is also important to us. When deciding on our "mission" at the Inn, we wanted to ensure that we created a full experience for our guests that included creative, fresh, in-house-made food for breakfast and at the dinner table. We are always interested in seeing what our guests have to say about their stay....and mindful that we need to strive to continually improve. Hope you can visit us again (perhaps on an anniversary) and check out our evolution for even better value and service. Thanks again for your patronage.

We stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon on the way up to Nova Scotia. It's a gorgeous, sprawling former-Captain's home with a grand view of the sea. We were really impressed with the high-quality of furnishings and decor throughout the inn, with the cleanliness of our room and the common areas, with the comfortable new bed, and the hospitality! This place has a lot of charm, and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought and energy into making the place special. We were pleasantly surprised about the restaurant. The chef has devised a creative, diverse, and delicious dinner menu. The breakfast was generously portioned and outrageously good. All in all, a bit pricey, but worth it!
