Stumbled upon this little gem through a random recommendation on the web, while traveling up the coast on a road trip.
Upon arriving very late, we were greeted very warmly, but, given the wrong room. (1 queen bed for 3 people + toddler ) But, the situation got handled quickly and we were promptly provided with an alternate room.
Restaurant was not bad, dinner and breakfast, but the best part was the service. Friendly and with a smile.
The location is beautiful, the amenities are very "original" in a good way.
Salt water pool, bowling alley, golf on site, very refreshing from the typical.
Overall it's a nice get away.

Dear ‘ByAirByLandBySea’:

Thank you for sharing your Sebasco travel thoughts with TripAdvisor – we are very happy that you stumbled upon our ‘little gem’. Apologies for the room issue – but it sounds as though it was handled well by the front desk team.

Thank you also for mentioning the service – friendly and a smile is what we do best!

We hope to see you again soon – all the best,

My family chose to spend a long weekend at the Maine shore after touring colleges on the east coast. The Sebasco website showed a quaint, charming resort which we looked forward to experiencing. Unfortunately, we found the best thing about the resort WAS the website.

Upon arrival, we found our reserved suite unavailable, due to booking issues. We were offered an inferior room for the night, which we had no choice but to accept, but no adjustment to the room rate was made, which we found totally unprofessional. We were assured the new room would be ready in the morning, as checkout time was 10 am. When we returned to the hotel in the afternoon, indeed the reserved suite was vacant, but uncleaned. This left us with the feeling that management had no dedication to customer service.

We found the facilities at the resort lacking terribly. The pool deck/patio area was cracked and sprouting weeds everywhere. The salt water pool was greenish and the bottom was slimy. Not quite the invitation to swim I looking forward to. The restaurants, we found, were mediocre. The breakfast was inferior. There was no skim milk available for cereal, which I found ridiculous, as the solution would be a quick trip to the supermarket. The breakfast buffet was no better than that at an economy chain hotel. The seasonal serving staff was untrained and unprofessional. In some cases, customers seated themselves and had to ask for the tables to be cleaned, or coffee refilled. Much of the staff stood idly by and did nothing to service customers unless asked.

Overall, our impression was that mediocrity was the norm, that there was no attention to improving service, or even recognizing that improvement was necessary. Our recommendation would be that the hotel needs a complete revamping, in order to match the rates that they charge. Sebasco had its glory days, but those days are NOT today.

Room Tip: Ask for A/C, as many rooms do not have it. Also, confirm your reservation, twice.

Green Features: The hotel does recycle. They do attempt to save water by asking guests if they would like their linens changed and towels washed daily. They use energy efficient lightbulbs and they claim to use locally grown and raised produce and poultry.

Dear ‘Holakj’:

Thank you very much for staying with us and for sharing your views on TripAdvisor, although I certainly wish that we could have provided you with a visit that was better than our website. I hope the tour of the great Maine (and Eastern) universities was productive.

In regard to the booking issues, without guest specifics, I can’t fully address what transpired with your reservation. Our check-out time is 10:30a, while our check-in time is 3:00p. If we had to do a room move, we should have offered for you to stay in the original room until the relocated room was ready for occupancy – I am sorry that wasn’t offered. In regard to the pool, we spend thousands each year in maintenance – it is vacuumed/treated daily and we do our best with Maine’s largest saltwater pool.

I am sorry that you didn’t care for the restaurants – our breakfast buffet has an omelet station every day, a minimum of one egg dish along with another daily special (Eggs Benedict, Crepes, Egg Burrito, etc.), French toast or pancakes, baked goods, fresh fruit/granola/yogurts/dry cereal and of course, bacon and sausage. We feel it is a very good value and nice presentation – we do have skim milk as an alternative – I am sorry that it wasn’t offered to you. It sounds as though our breakfast servers could have done a better job servicing your table – apologies.

I can personally assure you that mediocrity is not the ‘norm’, nor is it trained. Our Team, as you have seen in previous reviews, receive great accolades for the personality and service – I am sorry that it felt like you weren’t being treated with typical Pure Maine hospitality.

Please email or contact me if you want to provide additional specifics that I can address – again, thank you for staying with us and I am sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations.

Best regards,
Michael Lynch

We had a room on the third floor of the Lighthouse building -- never a real lighthouse, just built to look like one. It is right on the water with a fantastic view with a king size bed. The resort offers lots of amenities but the only one that we took advantage of was a 1.5 hour boat cruise.

Dear ‘MCBNH’:

Thank you very much for staying with us and for sharing with TripAdvisor – it is much appreciated. The Lighthouse rooms are some of our most popular – although it was built to be a working lighthouse in 1945 by Sebasco’s original owner, Nate Cushman, it was never commissioned by the United States Coast Guard. The two rooms on the third floor have spectacular views for sure!

Thank you for taking advantage of a trip on the Ruth – a stay at Sebasco isn’t complete without it!

All the best,

I first experienced Sebasco Estates as a kid and it was such a great experience I've returned with my wife and daughter. The staff are exceptional and were so nice at the golf course and the restaurant. The course is beautiful and the lobster rolls at the restaurant are the best I've had this summer. Golf and lobster rolls will now be an annual event on my daughter's birthday!

Thank you for returning to Sebasco after so many years – although many things have changed, I hope you especially enjoyed all the things that haven’t!

We look forward to your annual trip for golf and lobster rolls (could there be anything better?)…

Our stay at Sebasco Harbor Resort was top-notch all the way. We stayed in the Harbor Village East accommodations which were clean and beautifully decorated. The room had all the comforts of home+ which made for a comfortable stay. Each morning we enjoyed our coffee on the patio overlooking Sebasco Bay.
The staff was friendly and worked well together to provide their very best service. Meals in both restaurants, The Pilot House and The Ledges Pub, were delicious! Our compliments go out to the Chef and team.
We will definitely make this Resort a yearly destination and highly recommend it.

We decided to spend a week at Sebasco Harbor resort. It seemed like there was a lot to do. Looked like it had a nice pool as well....restaurant on the premises, etc. Our room was clean, and had a fridge, sink, and microwave, plus a nice little balcony with two chairs. There were three of us in the room, so that was a little inconvenient. What we miss are lounge chairs, it would be nice to have some handy. The only ones we have encountered are at the pool, which is a little bit of a walk away from our room.
They have a neat little bowling alley (from 1939) which appears to have never been resurfaced, but that goes along with the old "campy" builiding that houses it, along with a few other games. We tried the horseshoes (I told you this was old fashioned), but one was broken. We played croquet, but there was a missing stake, and we had to set up some of the wickets. We also played golf, but had not brought our own clubs, so that cost $120 for clubs, balls, cart, etc. There is a kayak tour, but that is for an extra fee.
We tried the special "Blueberry Pancake Breakfast" our first morning here. Family of three, about $45. It was disappointing at best. The resort could not control the breeze that cooled of the food before you got to your table, but they could make better pancakes, especially if it's the specialty. They also should have servers manning the buffet tables, as we watched a child reach her hands into the blueberries to scoop up a two fisted handful.
If you don't like the food at their two restaurants (chicken tenders are the frozen sort), and don't like the prices, there are only a couple of other choices nearby. One we were going to try, but left after walking in and seeing their brunch choices sitting on a counter with flies crawling all over the food with a staffer standing there, not paying any attention. The other choices are about a 15 minute drive. If you want more of a selection, then you have to drive into Bath or Brunswick. We have been afraid to try their more upscale Pilot House restaurant, as we are wary of the quality of the food, after trying the food at the Ledges, and the Pancake Breakfast.
We probably will not come to Sebasco Harbor again, as we have found it to be expensive for what you really are getting.

Room Tip: The Main Lodge is old, with a screened in porch that overlooks the office buildings. Not very appea...

We thank the reviewer for taking the time to offer these comments. We want every experience to be special and it looks like we fell short with this family. Unfortunately, we can’t seem to identify who this was and we hope the guest will respond to this posting so we can discuss their stay.

We appreciate the kind comments about housekeeping and we will pass then along.

Many of our cottages have decks large enough for lounge chairs but most balconies with our individual hotel rooms and suites do not. We should have brought a third chair for the balcony but wish we had a request from the guest.

The Quarterdeck, which houses our bowling alleys and other games, is one of our more popular features. The alleys get refinished regularly, but they get a lot of traffic during the course of the year. We’re proud of the “campy” tone around the resort and the old fashioned game offerings that are a step back in time. Most parents who come here appreciate unplugging their children from modern day electronics and watching them play ping pong or one of our classic pinball machines.

As for golf, we’ve not found a single resort in New England as affordable as Sebasco. We offer free golf clinics, a regulation sized practice course, free use of the range and putting green, and a free weekly junior golf outing. Thousands of beginners have learned the game here over the years and we are proud of that but there are some costs associated with playing on our signature course.

The Sunday morning Blueberry Pancake Breakfast on the pool lawn beside Sebasco Harbor has been a tradition here since the 60’s. Guests come in by boat from all over Casco Bay to join our guests at the resort for this event. Elbert has been at the grill making those blueberry pancakes for over a decade and those returning guests look forward to enjoying them. We have four to six servers constantly manning and replenishing the buffet, which features an extensive variety of breakfast items, but we do allow the guests to serve themselves.

As for our restaurants, both the Ledges and the Pilot House get rave trip advisor reviews from most of our guests but we are not always perfect. However, there are five other restaurants close by and over three dozen more in nearby Bath. I’m not sure which of the local nearby received the negative comment above but I wish this guest had given us another opportunity to please them at one of our restaurants.

The Main Lodge is our original inn building and a classic, which opened in 1930. With views of the harbor, golf course and village green, we have many guests who come back every year to the same inn room for the same experience and love the large screened in porch with the beautiful rocking chairs. This guest didn’t stay there so it is hard to understand the comment.

I’m certainly hoping this guest will call or write us. We reach out to every guest for feedback after their stay but haven’t heard from anyone with these comments.

The drive from NY to Sebasco was a beautiful start to an amazing 4 day stay in the 4 bedroom cottage. Each room had a private bathroom, there was an huge common living room and the room we gathered most in was the screened in porch. The kitchen was large enough to accommodate all our foods & snacks & our morning coffee and buffets. The activities were endless and you could participate in any or all OR none. We had an amazingly, relaxing time. Just perfect to catch up with our family and friends !!

Room Tip: Beautiful views from Harborside, The lighthouse and the 10 bedroom cottage next to the spa
