First read about Migis Lodge in a travel magazine years ago. Since then our family has gone every year, staying in the same cabin and loving everything about it. Safe, comfortable, scenic, fun activities for all ages or just sitting on the porch reading a book and feeding the chipmunks. Watching our grandsons grow from toddlers to teens and still asking to go back has been very special. There aren't many places you can let your kids roam free, enjoy delicious meals with casual shore lunches and white table cloth and fine wine dinners, and be with other families that enjoy one another. Migis is that kind of place. Not a mosquito in site, either :-) Coming from Florida, it is our summer escape to cool weather and fireplaces. We can't wait to return next year.

Room Tip: Each family has their own cabin. Many to choose from. All perfect for the Maine environment.

This is our second summer visiting Migis Lodge and I cannot tell you how wonderful this place is for our family. The lake views, the food, the water activites, and the staff cannot be beat! Our family can truly relax and enjoy one another in a beautiful setting. As a mother taking her family on vacation it is so wonderful to have awesome food for your family that everyone enjoys and not have to worry about the next meal or making sure there is something that everyone will like. Migis makes sure all family members are happy. The watersports are my children's favorite. Migis has a wonderful ski/wakeboarding instructor that has made my children want to return each year. We wakeboard, paddleboard, kayak, read in the sun, swim and enjoy time together. We also play some tennis and eat looking at the beautiful lake. You will not be disappointed by this magical place. It is a place to unwind and enjoy. We are already planning to return next year and we never repeat vacations. This place is that awesome! So head to maine to enjoy this terrific resort.

Room Tip: Try to get a lakeview cottage.

Migis Lodge cannot be beat for beauty of its location, warmth and friendliness of the staff, and comfort in the cabins and main lodge. This is a special place to unplug, take a swim, learn to kayak, canoe, paddle-board or water-ski, share time with family and friends, and simply enjoy this charming pine grove on a magnificent Maine lake.

Guests at Migis feel right at home. Staff is friendly and efficient. Gorgeous views from cabin and comfy porch with rocking chair overlooking Sebago Lake. Boats of all kinds at your disposal. Lots of good food including local blueberries (can even pick your own) and Maine lobsters, clams and corn. Relaxed and casual ambiance where you can really disconnect.

Room Tip: Request a cabin with lake views and porch. If you aren't a walker, choose a room in the lodge. T...

This is my second review of Migis Lodge - the first written years ago - and it's still one of my favorite places anywhere in the world. Our first trip to Migis was for our honeymoon (36 years ago), and my most recent was closing weekend last year (complete with the traditional fireworks in front of the lodge over the lake). The third generation of the Porta family is now managing this resort, and it's every bit as wonderful as it was when Jed's grandparents owned and ran it. Migis has transitioned into the 21st century to accommodate the age of technology without losing the charm and traditions of the early 1900's. We brought our daughters here for a week many summers in the 1980's, and it became such a special place in their lives that our older daughter chose to get married here eight years ago. (Many of our guests still talk about how much they enjoyed this idyllic spot - as well as how delicious the food was!) Most of the cottages have been updated in the last few years, and amenities have been added. We have stayed in every accommodation from a room in the lodge to the 3-bedroom Cliffside, and there is something unique and charming about every one. One of the features I love most is the wood-burning fireplaces which are usually ready to be lit when you arrive and after you return from breakfast. There are woodpiles throughout the property to replenish on your own if you choose. Our most recent stay was in the newly renovated Daybreak which was just amazing. Sitting on the porch listening to the loons call on the lake and smelling the chimney smoke and pine trees is heaven! The living area of Daybreak is comfortably furnished and has a desk and bar area as well as a fireplace. There is a dressing room, nice closets, large bedroom with comfortable, quilt-covered king bed facing the lake, and a spacious, lovely bathroom. All of the renovations have been done by local craftsmen in keeping with the flavor of Maine - lots of beautiful pine - lots of ambiance and rustic elegance without the glitz! An abundance of outdoor activities on both water and land, game nights in Boulders, backgammon in the lodge. The meals are delicious with choices for each course, and we are glad they have not abandoned the dress code of jackets for men at the evening meal. Sitting on the big porch having a drink before dinner is delightful and also a nice way to meet other guests if you choose. It is all very civilized without being stuffy or pretentious. Not being able to lock our door from the outside has never been a problem, but the safe at the office is available for anyone with valuables they are uncomfortable leaving unlocked. This is a wonderful place to bring children so expect them to be around if you vacation here in July or August. Before and after school is in session, we have found it to be mostly a couples crowd. Can't say enough wonderful things about Migis Lodge or the people who work there! Although it is not an inexpensive place to stay, it is worth the price, and the gratuity added on is often not adequate to compensate for the personal, pleasant service you will receive as a guest here. Thank you, Porta family, for many, many wonderful memories!! (And, NO, we are, sadly, not relatives!)

Room Tip: Read the descriptions of the rooms and ask questions before you book to be sure you get what you wan...

The food and atmosphere are amazing. However it is not cheap to stay here. Our cabin was clean and the fireplace was stocked with wood for a fire. The food was great but it killed my diet...I absolutely loved the place.

The winding forest road that leads off the busy highway is like Alice's rabbit hole, a portal, that takes you from the hectic pace of your life and drops you in a beautiful and effortlessly authentic lakeside camp straight out of the 50's.

You are offered a glimpse of life at the Migis when you call for a reservation (there is no on-line booking) and, depending on the amount of lead time you have, are asked to send a deposit cheque as they don't take credit cards. Given this, and if you don't have a US chequing account, it makes paying a bit difficult, but if you speak to them they do have a work around that doesn't require your travelling with cash or going to your bank for travellers' cheques (my bank teller asked me if I knew that I can use ATM/interact in the US when I asked for travellers' cheques! ).

The camp is beautiful - but make no mistake that during the summer this is a family camp, catering to families. If you are looking for a great family vacation - this is it! If you are looking for a couple's romantic getaway, you may feel a bit out of place but it's still great!

Cabins are shabby chic - beds are comfortable but bathrooms could stand to be renovated. There is no AC but the wind off the lake is cool. Another interesting aspect of the camp is that there are no locks on the cabin doors and no safes. Which means that while you want to trust your fellow "campers", and feel comfortable leaving items in your cabin, it is a bit hard to leave behind the safety requirements we come to expect or are trained to look for. But...we left things in the cabin and had no issues whatsoever.

Rates include full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner). You are asked at what time you'd like to dine and are given the same time and table every night. Dinner starts with a cocktail hour (not included in price but reasonable prices) - very civilized! As is the jacket that men are required to wear...a nice throwback. Food quality, choice and quantity was very good for all services.

There are a lot of activities for kids; day camp, water activities, tennis, etc...and for adults as well, minus the day camp! Everything is included.

Migis is a unique experience ... So unique that it's taken me months to write a review...it's a bit of a magical place.

Thank you for visiting our ‘bit of a magical place’ last summer, and we appreciate your pleasant and honest observations about Migis Lodge.  We hope you found that making a reservation over the phone was informative and efficient, giving us a chance to fully explain our variety of accommodations, recreational activities and menus.  We are pleased to take a check for deposit and payment, and make allowances for those without US checking accounts, holding space with a credit card.

The cottages do lock from the inside and we are happy to store valuables in a safe at our front desk for your convenience. Our dining room is open starting at 6:30 every evening and you are welcome to arrive anytime between then and 8:30 in the summer.  We close a bit earlier in the fall.  No need to think about a reservation; your table will be ready for you whenever you arrive.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay, and we look forward to serving you again.
