Comfortable hotel affordable and right outside Portland-out of the mix of traffic right off highway 10 minutes from down town Portland. Friendly helpful staff...indoor pool and complimentary breakfast.

Room Tip: Pool is on first floor and so is breakfast...side door access too

When I booked this hotel, I didn't even know Howard Johnson's still existed! We booked the HoJo because it was much cheaper than the places in Portland. The check in was fast and the customer service person was friendly. The hotel did not smell at all as others said it was not dirty. It is non smoking, so I don't know how rooms could smell like smoke. The room was spacious and the shower was fine. The bed was comfy. The one thing I didn't like was the pillows. They were a bit thick and hard. I would return, but I'd probably bring my own pillow. Breakfast was included and it was a decent spread. They even had make your own waffles. The parking is free and there is plenty of it. The hotel is around a 10 minute drive from downtown. Not a big deal at all. We found a parking lot that was around a 10 minute walk from old port for $5 a day. You can't beat that! I would recommend this hotel and I'd stay again.

Room Tip: we stayed at the end of the hallway and it was quiet

The facilities were constructed well, fifteen years ago. From the moment you walk in you will be bombarded with worn carpets, tired staff, and normal amenities cost extra. Want a fridge? $10 a day. Want a microwave? $10 a day. Ice machine? Only on first floor of a four floor facility. We had two adults and two teenagers, and there was only one available outlet integrated into a desk lamp, forcing us to choose light or charging our mobile devices. The interior of the rooms are just like the ones I stayed in with my parents when I was a child. Not impressed.

The best thing about this stay was the staff. Renovations are sorely needed. The rooms were dingy, musty and smelled of smokers ( supposedly a non-smoking facility). The halls were long and dark and very hot. If you needed to transport your luggage on a hotel carrier you had a barrier of steps confronting you and would have to carry your luggage up to your room. The breakfast was cold and the room depressing. If you're are looking for a bargain price this is the place but if you're looking for a pleasant hotel or motel check further.

Room Tip: Had to change our rooms due to smoke smell and nuttiness. Can't help in choosing a room that might be better.

This entire hotel was filthy. When you walk in the first thing you smell is rotten cigarette smell. Then we got to our room, which was equally as smelly. The lighting in the hallways is odd and not welcoming, there were holes in the walls, the pool water was murky when we looked at it. The curtains in our room were stained and someone had picked their nose and left a nice big present on the wall just above the chair, that was still there, there was a ton of hair in the ice bucket, everything in the bathroom was rusty....not to mention the whole place needs major updating. Overall, this entire place was filthy. Luckily, the staff was wonderful and we were able to get a full refund and move to another hotel that made our trip much more enjoyable.

Room Tip: Choose a different Hotel all together.
