“Not as nice as we expected”
Reviewed 17 July 2011

We had hoped to be able to enjoy the afternoon sun from our deck but it was shaded by trees until too late. Many of the units do enjoy sunny decks but not the Quata Deck. The accommodation was rather smaller than I expected from the photographs and we had difficulty stowing our cases and provisions. The kitchenette is mainly taken up by a large range and fridge but again, nowhere to put food that you don't want to store in a fridge and very little worktop to prepare meals. The bedroom was particularly cramped. The bathroom floor was sticky when we arrived and when I ran a cloth over it I discovered that it was also very dirty; rather off-putting.
Nevertheless SW Harbor is delightful and there are plenty of good places to eat.

We always appreciate candid feedback from our guests at Pier One and this feedback is no exception. The Quata-Deck is indeed situated in a garden setting with shade trees and a nice brick garden patio right outside a set of sliding glass doors. In addition just a few steps from the patio is a second space comprised of a wooden deck in a sunny spot with great water views. In my opinion this unit offers the best of what a quiet shade garden offers in terms of privacy and also a sunny view from the deck on the water. With a direct western exposure the sunsets are great! The kitchen is well equipped but not necessarily set up for extensive cooking. There is a full size stove and refrigerator and ample storage and the prep area is indeed tight but perfect for a simple meal and for breakfast. If you are looking to do a lot of cooking perhaps our unit called The Topside would be a better choice. I am myself disturbed by the thought that the bathroom floor was sticky. We do have a great cleaning staff who has worked for us for years and the only thing I can think of was that perhaps the soap was not rinsed from the floor well enough and left a residue. Stepping on it from outside may have added the dirt. Whatever the reason this is unacceptable and will not happen again as long as I own this place. Thanks again to these guests for sharing their perspective. It offers us an opportunity to improve and to also help others in choosing a unit at Pier One that may be more to their liking. Thanks for listening!

For the last two summers, we have spent one week at this picturesque establishment. It is a top notch location, that I have, and will continue to reccomend to all of my friends and family! If you are going to be in the area, do your self a great service and stay here, it is truly wonderful!

We stayed at Pier One for our 10th anniversary last weekend in the Fok-Sol. It's a unique property right on the water very close to the center of Southwest Harbor (a 15-minute walk, we timed it). If you like very fresh lobster and seafood, Pier One is literally right next door to Beal's Lobster Pound.

The Fok-Sol is cozy and quaint. Lots of original beams, rustic paneling, antiques for decorations - very "shabby chic." But it has all of the modern amenities: updated bathroom; well outfitted kitchen; built-in hairdryer (!). The deck outside the kitchen is right on the water, and at high tide the water line is feet from the bedroom window - very cool. If you like ultra-modern and luxurious, this place is probably not for you. But if you don't mind authentic slanted floors, rustic antique-y decor, and being right close by a working fishing pier, you'll love it!

We walked to Southwest Harbor for dinner a couple of times. I would highly recommend Sips and Cafe 2 (a tip: make a reservation at Cafe 2 for dinner if you don't want to eat early; they fill up quickly and don't have many tables). Sips is very casual but elegant at the same time, and you can buy 2-oz "sips" of wine to try different ones. The meals at both restaurants were delicious!

Overall, I would highly recommend Pier One. We can't wait to go back.

My husband and I spent three wonderful nights over Labor Day weekend at the Deck House at Pier One. As previously stated it is a studio cottage with a huge deck. This is not a fancy place but had everything necessary for a great vacation. The deck is out over the water and just sitting there looking at the working harbor was extremely relaxing.
We had arranged for three nights there and three in Boothbay Harbor in a lovely B&B, but we really wished that we had spent the entire time at the Deck House. We will definitely return.

My husband and I loved our six nights at the "Deck House" at Pier One. The one-room cabin is next to Pier One suites but has its own private deck. It is lovely and comfortable for two persons, away from the tourist centers of the island. Staying there, however, we had the advantage of being close to Acadia National Park, the tidepools of Seawall, rental sails, and good coffee shops and lunch spots (Sips and Pita-to-Go) and restaurants (be sure to try the Red Sky Restaurant--and, of course, Beal's Lobster Pound nearby). We also very much enjoyed watching the tides come and go as we ate breakfasts, lunch, and dinners on our deck. The furnished kitchenette had a full stove with oven, refrigerator, and microwave for "self-catering". The Pier One wireless internet connection is available at the Deck House, although you need to be on the deck to pick up a strong signal. The hosts Don and Javier are welcoming and helpful, while allowing an appropriate level of privacy during the stay. I have difficulty adequately describing the restful beauty of this quiet spot on Southwest Harbor. We highly recommend the Deck House or, if you have a larger party and need more room, one of the Pier One Suites.

We were looking for a place to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. We always wanted to see the Maine coastline and feast on "lobster". This was the place. It's location allowed us to spend many exiciting hours in Acadia National Park. Pier One was also centrally located to other interesting sites such as Bass Harbor, Wonderland, Ships Harbor and others.
