We were looking for a place to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. We always wanted to see the Maine coastline and feast on "lobster". This was the place. It's location allowed us to spend many exiciting hours in Acadia National Park. Pier One was also centrally located to other interesting sites such as Bass Harbor, Wonderland, Ships Harbor and others.

We stayed at the Harbour Cottage Inn (HCI) previously and were completely overwhelmed by the graciousness of our hosts, the quality of the service, the room, the five star breakfasts and the overall attention to the small details which truly made our stay a memorable experience. On our return trip we decided to stay at Pier One, the sister property to HCI. Pier One offers more seclusion than HCI and the breakfasts are not included in the room rate, however if you are looking to have some privacy for an extended stay and all the amenities of home, you will enjoy Pier one. And if you are inclined, you can take a short stroll to HCI where for a modest price, you can have a truly superb gourmet breakfast to start your day. We stayed in the Topside which had two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and a full bath. It did have a small balcony however we did not utilize it due to its size and an obstructed view of the water. I suggest that if you are looking for a place with common space and more interactions with fellow travelers, HCI would be a better choice. In fact, we did use the expansive HCI lawn to play tag with the kids on several occasions. All said, Don and Javier are excellent hosts and we would stay with them again..

My girlfriend and I spent a week at Pier One at the beginning of August. We stayed in the Fok Sul suite, and upon our arrival, we knew we had made the right choice. The room was very comfy and cozy. The kitchen was well equipped and the deck was the place for many an evening cocktail as well as coffee every morning. It was great to watch the boats go out in the morning as well.

We can't say enough about Don and Javier. They were incredible hosts...and really had some great recommendations for sites to see as well as restaurants we wanted to try out. We had breakfast one morning at the Inn...and it was a real treat!

The location is so convenient. We walked to Southwest Harbor several days...and Bar Harbor, Acadia and Northeast Harbor are a mere stones throw away.

We would stay at Pier One again...without hesitation!

Was planning to vacation with a group of people (friends and family) and one of them actually selected this place - she has family in the area so I trusted her judgement. We stayed in a suite at Pier One and we were really impressed with the cleanliness of the place as well as the rustic decor. Bathroom was a bit small for 4 of us (3 females!!) but everything else was great.
Service provided by owners over at Harbor Cottage Inn was very good - helpful and personable employees as well. We were invited to breakfast at the Inn one day and really enjoyed a beautiful morning on the deck.
Location is a convenient walk into the town of Southwest Harbor with quaint little shops and several good restaurants.
Would definitely recommend.

My husband and I spent a most pleasant week at the "Quata Dek" at Pier One in June 2008. We especially loved the location right on a lobster boat bay and away from busy Bar Harbor. A quick 15 minute drive took us to Cadillac Mountain, the Loop Road, or downtown Bar Harbor. The same 15 minute drive brought us back to a more authentic Maine experience in Southwest Harbor. Our hosts were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the area. We were treated to a wonderful blueberry pancake breakfast at the main Harbor Cottage Bed and Breakfast. The food and service were outstanding. Our accommodations were charming from the cozy gas stove for chilly mornings to the Adirondack chairs on the deck for basking in the afternoon sun. Two activities we tried while there were sailing on the 4-masted schooner, the Margaret Todd, and an island tour in ocean kayaks--both truly memorable. We will tell our friends about our trip and recommend that they stay at Pier One or the Harbor Cottage Inn for an unforgettable and seamless vacation experience.

I spent seven nights at Pier One in mid-May 2008, and my experience there was consistently superior. I was not familiar with Southwest Harbor--or Maine--when I decided I needed a break from city life. I researched a variety of lodging options in Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor, and my conversation with Don (one of the innkeepers) convinced me to stay at Pier One. I chose to stay in the Quata Deck, which has one bedroom, a living room and dining area, and a kitchenette. The kitchenette was very nicely equipped not only with refrigerator, stove, and microwave, but also with a blender and toaster oven. The Quata Deck was meticulously clean when I arrived. The decor is lovely--warm, comfortable, and inviting--and has many charming details. The bed was quite comfortable, and I enjoyed the gas-log stove each chilly evening. The Quata Deck opens on to a small garden patio, which connects to a deck overlooking the water. Don and Javier, the innkeepers, are gracious hosts. Although I did not stay at their Harbour Cottage Bed and Breakfast, they invited me to have breakfast with them one morning (the fruit and fresh blueberry muffins were wonderful). I could not have asked for a better place to stay--it gave me all the privacy, quiet, comfort, and easy access to Acadia I needed. I would highly recommend Pier One, and I would certainly go back. Don and Javier provided me with a much-needed retreat.

Pier One is owned by Don & Javier, who also own the Harbour Cottage Inn, both in Southwest Harbor. If you are not familiar with Southwest Harbor, you are really in for a treat. This is called the "Quiet Side" of Mt. Desert Island, which also holds the much more famous, much more crowded, and much livelier Bar Harbor. If you like a quiet place, with friendly people, great restaurants & a very gentle rhythm, this is the place. You still have great access to all of Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor is only about 15 minutes away--we eat there a lot when we stay at Southwest Harbor.

Pier One is perfect for families. We have three kids, and we stay in a suite that has two bedrooms, a living room with a fold-away bed in the sofa, a kitchen, and a dining room. The place is comfortable, spacious, and feels like home. We usually eat breakfast in the suite, pack energy bars for the trail, hike (or bike) all day, then head to Bar Harbor for dinner. We couldn't be happier with the accommodations.

Pier One does not have maid service. The suite is spotless when you arrive, but you are responsible for keeping it neat (or not) during your stay. For some people this may be a turn-off, but we don't mind.

We love Southwest Harbor, and we have stayed at Pier One each time we have been there (this will be the fourth year in a row). We give it our highest recommendation.
