Jim and Fred know how to make everyone feel at home. Great spot to enjoy the large menu of outdoor activites. Loved hiking in Aracadia and all the gorgeous birds eye view spots. Visited local gym and taht was a fine compliment to Linden wood since it is in very easy walking distance. Enjoy the cool nights!

Room Tip: Not right on the water but made up for it with a lovely backyard with very nice pool and hot tub.

We've stayed at the Lindenwood almost every summer for the last 15 years. Jim and Fred are superlative hosts--laid back, but attentive. Esther knows every detail of the island and can make sure you have a perfect day. The breakfasts are terrific: baked goodies, fresh fruit, and yogurt parfaits all followed by a gourmet breakfast entree. My favorite are the mini blueberry pancakes, but my husband can't stop talking about the breakfast risotto with spinach, mushrooms, and a poached egg. The inn is spotless, the decor isn't fussy, and nearly every room has a terrific harbor view just perfect for star gazing at night or boat watching by day. Don't bother with Bar Harbor. Stay on the Quietside and enjoy the Lindenwood. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Room 9 has a giant roof deck with spectacular views of the harbor.

Our family of five would like to declare that the Lindenwood Inn exceeded all expectations (which were high). The breakfasts were beyond belief, so much so that we felt we could not miss any during our 5 day stay. Esther, Fred and Jim were the perfect hosts, helping us to plan our days and making us feel extremely comfortable in our home away from home. A few examples: Esther pointed out a hike that had not been on our radar which was magnificent, Fred pulled our almost dry clothes into our lodging when a thunderstorm hit. Great location-walking distance to town. Southwest Harbor is the place to stay--away from the crowds of Bar Harbor and still close to everything. We couldn't possibly say enough about this wonderful find!!

Room Tip: As a family of 5 we were in the Pool Cottage which worked nicely.

We stayed here in September 2012 as a couple while we visited Mount Desert Island. The B&B is gorgeous and the room was lovely.

Our favorite things were the: amazing breakfast each morning, the serve-yourself bar with an honour system and very reasonably priced (it was really nice to pour a gin and tonic and then drink it in the hottub), and the outdoor hottub!

The only downsides were that a lot of reviews remarked about how friendly and gregarious the hosts were - we didn't really see much of them at all, but it didn't affect our stay. The other downside was the distance from Southwest Harbour to the park - we felt like we did a ton of driving over our 3 days there. Logistically it would have been easier to stayed in Bar Harbour... but that's the trade off. I think this is a great location if you want a quieter place to stay and it has some amazing restaurants close by, the Inn is super relaxing and the pool and hottub really make it awesome.
If you want more nightlife or less driving to and from the park, then maybe consider staying in Bar Harbour but with likely less quality accommodation.
The place was quite expensive, but it seemed to be on par with anywhere else we looked and it was good value for the price.

Room Tip: We chose Room 1 - I liked the colours... but I think all the rooms are nice. They are each different...

Bar Harbor is a place that is jam-packed with activity and a challenge to navigate during the busy tourist season. A great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to stay there. Southwest Harbor is convenient to all MDI has to offer, with much less chaos, and Lindenwood is the perfect place to call home during your stay. The entire property is charming, welcoming, and well maintained. The main house features lovely common areas for socializing, including indoor sitting areas, a large comfortable porch, and a garden area with pool and hot tub. Breakfast is served in the main house, which is just steps away from Rosebrook and the waterfront cottages. Rosebrook also has a comfortable common room and a small kitchen area, which would make this a terrific spot for a small group to share. We enjoyed staying in room 11, in Rosebrook, during our first visit in July. Clean, neat, and well appointed, our room had a fantastic view of the harbor from both the room and our private deck and featured a small in-room fireplace. We found the kitchen convenient for storing snacks and cold beverages, and loved taking a dip in the pool and hot tub each night before drifting off to sleep in our heavenly bed. We enjoyed the waterfront cottage during our second stay in August. The cottage is situated in a lovely garden with a private beach, dock, and use of kayaks or canoes. A very sweet stone patio with a grill and outdoor dining table is just off the slider from the kitchen/living room-- both with spectacular views of the harbor. Once again, the space was clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Fred, Jim, and Esther could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Mario prepared delicious breakfasts for us each morning, and the staff was always attentive and friendly. Museums, restaurants, and shops are a walk or quick car ride away, the ferry is just around the corner, and you can even stroll down to the pier for fresh seafood. Several nearby trails do not require park entry to enjoy, and offer a wide range of ability and length of time to complete. Kayak and bike rental are both available in-town. Don't miss Sawyer's Specialties for a great bottle of wine, cheese, olives, and a bit of pâté...perfect for a moonlight picnic by the harbor.

The inn consists of two old sea captains' houses on a quiet street in a subdued Southwest Harbor. We had a small room in the second house; while clean and well-appointed, we probably would have spent a more comfortable night in the main building with a cross breeze. We were made to feel at home, however, and the breakfasts were outstanding, whether taken in the dining room or on the porch. Southwest Harbor and nearby Seal Harbor are great places to relax away from that "other peninsula." We would return.

We chose to stay in Southwest Harbor to avoid the tourist throngs in Bar Harbor. Loved the quiet side of MDI. The inn is a great 1904 mansion we stayed in the pool house with our 2 kids. They had a loft with twin beds and we had a separate bedroom. Was great to stay at an inn with great breakfast and still have room for family. The manager could not have been more helpful and the food was truly outstanding. The decor was a bit tired in the pool house but did not phase us a bit because of the other great benefits of the place..pool, hot tub, porch, walk to town......highly recoed!!
