We spent three relaxing, well cared for nights at the Harbour Cottage Inn and very highly recommend it. Consider this inn as an alternative to staying at Bar Harbor if you want a beautiful environment with peace and quiet. We did drive through Bar Harbor and it was a crowded, touristy mess.
We had the Dory room which is a corner room with views of Southwest Harbor. The owners are extremely friendly but not intrusive and completely attentive to ones needs. The whole inn is decorated in an old Maine style. There is a shared cooler for red wine and another for white wine, cheese, etc. We had a king bed, fan, plenty of room, and a very nice bathroom. The breakfasts were elegant, with a fruit and muffins served before the main course. Everything is made on premises and delicious! There is a wharf across the street and down a short street where lobsters are sold. Neighborhood walks are easy, quiet, and peaceful.
If we were to return to Acadia National Park and the island we would definitely stay at the Harbor Cottage Inn. As a bonus, a second stay or referring a friend merits a 5% discount. Elegant, peaceful, quiet, great breakfast, and easy drives to the sights make this inn a stay you should take advantage of.More
